Through these texts, students are developing foundational skills such as recognizing letters, understanding that print carries meaning, identifying characters and settings, and building vocabulary. We use the books during read-alouds, small group instruction, and independent exploration time. One special moment was during a story time when students began predicting what would happen next and connecting the story to their own lives—an important early comprehension skill.\r\n\r\n Reading in our classroom is interactive, engaging, and rooted in conversation. During read-alouds, students sit together on the carpet, actively participating by asking and answering questions, repeating phrases, and discussing illustrations. We also incorporate songs, movements, and dramatization to bring stories to life. In our classroom library, students have the opportunity to explore books independently or with a partner, building a love for reading while practicing how to handle books and follow along from left to right.\r\n\r\n Several students have especially connected with the new books. Some who were previously less interested in literacy activities are now choosing books during free play and eagerly sharing stories with their classmates. Others enjoy retelling stories using the pictures or acting them out with friends. These moments show growing confidence and excitement around reading. Moving forward, we will continue using these books to strengthen comprehension, language development, and a lifelong love of reading. Thank you for helping bring these meaningful learning experiences into our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1768845549759,"projectUrl":"project/building-letters-words-and-stories/10040074/","projectTitle":"Building Letters, Words, and Stories","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lopez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10405242_orig.png?crop=233,233,x0,y23&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1768370700292","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10405242"},{"teacherId":10405242,"projectId":10025888,"letterContent":"Our classroom has been using the new resources every day through hands-on, play-based learning activities that align with preschool standards. Students are exploring early math and literacy skills by sorting, counting, building, and engaging in interactive centers. One special moment was during a small-group activity where students used the materials to practice counting and recognizing numbers. They were excited to touch, move, and organize the items, and I saw many of them begin to make connections and explain their thinking in simple ways.\r\n\r\n When the students first saw the new materials, their faces lit up with excitement and curiosity. They were eager to explore and immediately began asking questions and experimenting with how to use them. The resources have made learning more engaging and accessible, especially for students who benefit from hands-on experiences. Even students who are typically more reserved have become more involved, showing increased confidence as they participate in activities and interact with their peers.\r\n\r\n As we move forward, we will continue using these resources to build foundational skills in areas such as early literacy, number sense, and social development. Students will engage in more structured centers and collaborative activities where they can practice communication, problem-solving, and independence. These next steps will help prepare them for kindergarten by strengthening both their academic and social-emotional skills.
