I smile, point them to our classroom charging station, and ask them to borrow one of ours. Their shoulders drop, a smile slips onto their face, and they can move on to learning. When the felting materials arrived, they were so excited! They kept holding the wool, flipping through the many colors, and asking, \"We get to use this? In class?\" From the first day, the engagement has been incredible. Students designed their characters in Adobe Illustrator, and now they're bringing them into 3D through needle felting. Watching them carefully sculpt tiny noses, hairstyles, outfits, and expressions has honestly been very rewarding and amazing. \r\n\r\nThis project has become something special in our classroom. Students have been coming in early before school, staying during lunch, and sticking around after class just to work on their soft sculptures. Some students who usually struggle to stay focused are totally absorbed in the process, which is quiet, calm, and they are proud of their progress. I've even caught kids walking around the room showing their characters off to their friends. They LOVE this project, and that warms my heart as a teacher.\r\n\r\nNext, students will be photographing their finished sculptures and reflecting on how transforming their 2D design into a 3D object changed their ideas, creativity, and confidence. This project opened a door for them in a way I hoped it would, and the pride they feel holding something they created from scratch is what the artist process is all about.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in this idea and in my amazing students. When the two jumbo beanbag chairs arrived, my students were SO excited! Many of them had never seen furniture like that available in a school classroom before. From the moment I set the chairs up in the nook the students began using them during every single period of the day. Now, it's always occupied. Sometimes you will find a single student quietly sketching, sometimes you will see a small group collaborating, or sometimes by a student who just needs a moment to breathe before returning to their work.\r\n\r\nStudents use this cozy space before school, after school, and throughout the day to draw, work on assignments, create art, write, and sometimes simply reflect. It has transformed our classroom environment into one that feels warm, supportive, and welcoming. It encourages SEL through comfort, connection, and calm, which is such an important part of the art-making process. One student told me, \"This is the only spot where I actually relax during the school day,\" and another said, \"Please tell the donors thank you! This is our favorite place to be!\"\r\n\r\nTeachers who walk by frequently stop in to comment on how inviting and peaceful the space feels. It has led to more connections, more collaboration, and more creativity than I ever expected. Students are respecting it in a way that shows how meaningful it is to them.\r\n\r\nOur next step will be adding a journaling station to give students additional tools to explore mindfulness, reflection, and creativity. Thanks to you, we're already well on our way to making our art room a place where students can relax, reset, and create with confidence.\r\n\r\nWe are so grateful for your support in building this safe and welcoming corner of the classroom! Press. Create! project! It has transformed the energy in my classroom in the best possible way. My students absolutely loved creating their button designs in Adobe Illustrator, but the moment they were able to press their digital artwork into a real, physical button, everything changed. The students were EXCITED! Students who are usually quiet or hesitant became fully engaged and eager to see their designs come to life in their hands.\r\n\r\nThe button maker has added a real-world purpose to their design work. Students have been creating buttons to sell in the school store, and they are delighted to see staff and students wearing their designs around the building. That moment when a student walks by a teacher and sees their artwork pinned to a lanyard is incredibly powerful for them. They feel seen, valued, and proud!\r\n\r\nThis project has also opened the door to authentic \"client\" experiences. Students have been commissioned by clubs like the Poetry Club and Track Team to design and produce custom buttons. Staff members have asked for buttons that communicate important messages, such as \"I am bilingual\" or \"Ask me about my experience in the Disney Internship Program.\" These requests have given students a chance to think like designers, solve real communication problems, and create products with purpose.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite changes is that students are now coming to class early to work on their client projects. They are invested, motivated, and genuinely excited. I am incredibly proud of the professionalism and pride they are showing, and it has elevated our Graphic Design classroom into a place buzzing with creativity, entrepreneurship, and real-world learning.\r\n\r\nThis project didn't just add a tool to our room; it added confidence, pride, and opportunities. And seeing students wear their own button designs on their lanyards or bookbags is a reminder every day of how much this project means to them.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in my students and giving them the chance to create work that matters. Over several weeks, students drafted and shared stories in new notebooks responding to a series of prompts that facilitated reflection, encouraged the use of target vocabulary, and allowed students to capture a year of change and growth. Students then edited their stories carefully into an eight page mini-book where they included illustrations of their experience. There are many highlights of this end-of-year project, but I would say this was best captured in the culminating Book Release Party, where classes gathered to share their stories with each other and other teachers and school leaders in the school.\r\n\r\nThere is nothing like getting new supplies at the end of the school year! New sharp colored pencils, large thick white drawing paper, new notebooks to capture acquired skills, folders to safely protect their drafts and final books were all materials purchased with your generous donation.
