When trying new things, it's very important to research before doing. This is all part of the engineering design process though, so what did we do when our lilikoi (passion fruit) failed to grow? The most exciting part for the kids is the sheer variety of sounds at their fingertips; with the tap of a pad or the press of a key, they can switch from a traditional drum kit to synth sounds or orchestral strings, making the process of building their own backing tracks feel like pure magic.\r\n\r\n​This technology has been a total game-changer for several of my students who used to be quite shy during traditional singing or instrument lessons. In particular, a few students who were initially too intimidated to step into the recording booth completely blossomed once they got their hands on the keyboards. They spent their recess time collaborating on a custom drum loop, and that hands-on success gave them the confidence to finally step up to the microphone and record their vocals over a track they built themselves.
