Over the summer, I had the opportunity to work with science teachers across the nation and I realized just how isolated Hawai'i students really are. When it comes to being familiar with some "common" science phenomena, my students have a clear disadvantage. Many have not had the opportunity to venture beyond their island home and know very little about the scientific discoveries taking place beyond their classroom.
