My first grade students are sweet, inquisitive and eager to learn. Most of my students did not attend preschool. For many of them Kindergarten was their first exposure to daily reading. They are growing up in a beautiful, but impoverished community where daily life struggles make reading at home difficult. I have students who live in shelters, on the beach or in multifamily, overcrowded residences. They love learning and need a school environment that will support their abilities.
