We've been using the new reading comprehension kits and fluency cards during our small group rotations, and they've already made a big impact. One moment that really stood out was during a nonfiction lesson when students were working together to find text evidence. They were so excited to \"prove\" their answers, and I loved hearing them explain their thinking to each other—it was such a proud teacher moment! When the materials first arrived, the kids were immediately drawn to them—they were excited, curious, and couldn't wait to try everything out. The hands-on cards have been especially engaging, and several students even asked if they could use them during their free time.\r\n\r\nWe're already seeing growth in their reading confidence, especially with fluency—students are reading more smoothly and with better expression. Moving forward, we'll continue building these skills as we dive deeper into nonfiction and begin simple research projects. Students will use the evidence kits to support their thinking and share their learning through writing and presentations. It truly felt like our classroom leveled up over Spring Break. \r\nEven students who sometimes hesitate during reading activities have been more willing to participate and take risks. One of my favorite moments was during a literacy board game - I saw some of my quieter students eagerly read the story cards out loud to their peers. I also enjoy watching the students use the whiteboards to participate by raising their boards (we use them for all subjects!)\r\nNext, we'll continue to build on this momentum and use these resources to strengthen comprehension and practice vocabulary. The students' faces lit up with excitement and curiosity. Many of them rushed over to the bookshelf, eager to explore the new titles, gently running their hands over the covers and asking if they could start reading right away. The carpet quickly became a favorite spot. Students gathered together on it for read-alouds, small group discussions, and independent reading time. It created a sense of community and comfort that we didn't have before.\r\n\r\nThe bookshelf gave our classroom a sense of organization and pride. Instead of books being scattered or difficult to access, students can now easily find something that interests them. This has encouraged more independent reading and helped students take ownership of their learning space. The variety of books has also made a big difference. Students are more engaged because they can see themselves, their interests, and new ideas reflected in what they read.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, reading has become a more meaningful and enjoyable part of our daily routine. We use it every single morning to brainstorm and create thinking maps. It is wonderful to see the students gathered around, watching their ideas take shape on the large chart paper. By using Post-it notes, I am able to individualize the experience for every child; each student gets a say, and we can physically move their thoughts around to organize our collective ideas. It has turned our abstract thoughts into a visual journey that stays posted on the wall for us to reference all week.\r\n\r\nBeyond our brainstorming sessions, the watercolor paper has been a total game-changer for our budding artists.
