Students dove into the new materials the moment they arrived; you should have seen their faces — excited, curious, and immediately drawn to the stencils. One memorable moment: an AP Art student returned during lunch to layer colors with the mixable inks, using both premade and self-cut stencils to develop an ongoing op-art investigation. That sustained use sparked a chain reaction — students began sharing their color-mixing experiments and techniques with classmates, trading tips and building on each other's ideas.\r\n\r\nWe're using the materials across a range of ceramic techniques — tiles, thrown work, and slab construction — and we'll continue to add these reusable supplies into our decorating toolbox. The mixable inks allow students to experiment with color blending and transparency on both functional tiles and sculptural pieces, deepening their understanding of color interaction and increasing confidence to take creative risks. The premade stencils give beginners a clear starting point for composition, while designing their own stencils promotes problem-solving, fine-motor skill development, and personal expression.\r\n\r\nTogether, these resources are fostering collaboration, sustained investigation, and technical growth. Students are incorporating the techniques into future projects and teaching one another new approaches, which strengthens our classroom community and keeps creative momentum going.
