Several of our students seek me out every week for help with basic supplies and hygiene products. Currently, I have several cardboard boxes (some of which are not in the best shape) in a corner of my office filled with things like deodorant, hats and gloves, and school supplies. I also have a cart stacked with several winter coats. Although we receive generous donations relatively consistently, it is still difficult to ensure that some of these items stay in stock. I am requesting funds not only to organize the supplies and clothing in my office using plastic bins and a clothing rack, but also to replenish items like socks and backpacks.
When our students come to me to access resources that they and their families cannot afford, it is important to me that they have an experience that feels safe and respectful. All children should be cared for and have their basic needs met without question. They deserve to feel proud of themselves and capacitated to grow academically and socially. Having this space more adequately organized will also allow our students to find what they need more quickly, allowing them to spend as much time accessing their education as possible.
