The new technology and classroom resources have helped transform our learning environment into a space that feels both engaging and welcoming. While technology is often associated with individual devices, tools like our soundbar and classroom audio system play an important role in helping students access learning. Whether we are listening to a podcast, analyzing a speech, watching a video, or sharing student presentations, clear audio ensures that every student can hear and participate fully. The printer toner has also allowed me to provide students with high-quality learning materials, feedback, and resources that support their growth as readers and writers.\r\n\r\nWhat has been most exciting for students is how these additions have changed the atmosphere of our classroom. The combination of warm lighting from the lamps and hanging lights, paired with music played through the soundbar during independent work time, has created a calmer and more comfortable environment. Students frequently comment on how much more inviting the room feels and how the softer lighting helps them focus. Many students who are often anxious or easily distracted seem more relaxed and engaged when they enter the classroom.\r\n\r\nI have especially noticed an impact on students who struggle with concentration and confidence. During reading and writing workshops, these students are staying on task longer and participating more actively in class activities. The classroom now feels less like a sterile institution and more like a community space where students can take intellectual risks and feel comfortable being themselves. Your generosity has helped create an environment where students can focus on learning, collaboration, and personal growth. Thank you for making this possible and for investing in the success of my students.","fullyFundedDate":1746785593377,"projectUrl":"project/sound-light-action-enhancing-our-lear/9321934/","projectTitle":"Sound, Light, Action: Enhancing Our Learning Space","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sinclair","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8673282_orig.jpg?crop=2208,2208,x490,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1691205028164","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mss-sinclair"},{"teacherId":8673282,"projectId":10157748,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, our book club has become a reality, and students have eagerly embraced the opportunity to read together. For many of my students, independent reading can feel intimidating, especially when they have struggled with reading in the past or have not found books that truly capture their interest. The addition of Red Rising has changed that. Students are excited to discuss the characters, debate the choices they make, and make predictions about what will happen next. It has been wonderful to see students voluntarily pick up a book and continue reading beyond what is required.\r\n\r\nWhat started as a club for a small group of students quickly grew into something much bigger. Students began telling their friends about the book and the discussions we were having, and soon students from other classes and even other grade levels wanted to join. The excitement spread so quickly that we ended up with more interested students than we had books available. It was truly a raging success and a clear sign that students were hungry for opportunities to read and connect with one another through literature.\r\n\r\nReading in our book club goes far beyond simply turning pages. Students practice important literacy skills such as analyzing character development, identifying themes, making evidence-based claims, and engaging in respectful academic discussions with their peers. Through discussion guides and reflection activities, students learn how to support their ideas with textual evidence while also listening to and building upon the perspectives of others. These are skills that transfer directly to their success in English classes, college, and future careers.\r\n\r\nOne of the most rewarding outcomes has been watching students who do not typically see themselves as readers become some of the most active participants. Students who were initially hesitant to join discussions are now sharing thoughtful insights and asking deeper questions about the text. The book club has created a community where students feel comfortable expressing their ideas and discovering the joy that comes from reading alongside others. In fact, students are already asking what next year's book selection will be because they are eager to continue the experience.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping make these meaningful experiences possible. Your support has given my students access not only to books, but also to confidence, connection, and a renewed sense of curiosity.","fullyFundedDate":1773872266462,"projectUrl":"project/building-readers-beyond-the-classroom/10157748/","projectTitle":"Building Readers Beyond the Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sinclair","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8673282_orig.jpg?crop=2208,2208,x490,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1691205028164","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mss-sinclair"},{"teacherId":8673282,"projectId":9332560,"letterContent":"As an English teacher, I have always been the kind of reader who studies with a pencil in one hand and a stack of sticky flags nearby. My professional books quickly become colorful maps of learning, filled with highlights, notes in the margins, and tabs marking ideas I want to revisit. Some of my favorite reading happens early in the morning with a cup of coffee before school or during quiet afternoons when I can reflect on a chapter and immediately connect it to the students sitting in my classroom. Thanks to your generosity, I was able to build a collection of professional resources that has already transformed the way I think about instruction and student support.\r\n\r\nThese texts introduced practical strategies for differentiation, literacy instruction, executive functioning, student motivation, and structured teaching. I learned new ways to break complex tasks into manageable steps, provide meaningful scaffolds for English learners, and help students develop the self-regulation skills needed to succeed both inside and outside the classroom. Just as importantly, several of the books reminded me that effective teaching begins with reflection and care, helping me sustain the energy and passion needed to show up fully for my students every day.\r\n\r\nOne classroom moment stands out in particular. After implementing strategies from my professional reading, I redesigned a challenging reading activity by chunking the text into smaller sections and providing clearer supports for annotation and discussion. Students who would normally hesitate to participate began contributing thoughtful observations and asking deeper questions. Watching students build confidence, engage with the text, and support one another in discussion was a powerful reminder that small instructional changes can create meaningful opportunities for growth. Students immediately noticed the new binders, dividers, and supplies, and there was a real sense of excitement when they saw that everyone had what they needed—no one had to worry about missing materials or feeling unprepared.\r\n\r\nWe've already put the resources into action during our current unit. Students are using their binders and dividers to organize reading notes, vocabulary, and writing assignments by category, which has made it much easier for them to revisit their thinking and track their growth. The highlighters and paper have been especially powerful during close reading activities. Students are actively annotating texts and discussing how their interpretations change when they focus on key details. During group work, the markers and easel pads have helped students collaborate more effectively as they map out ideas and prepare for class discussions.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, many students were visibly excited and even relieved. Several commented that it \"felt like a real college class\" and appreciated having consistent supplies they could rely on every day. That sense of ownership has carried into their work.\r\n\r\nNext, students will be using these tools to prepare for a more formal writing assessment where they will build on their notes, annotations, and organized binders to craft a full analytical essay. The structure these resources provide is helping them feel more confident as they take on more complex academic tasks and I can already see that confidence growing in their writing and discussions.","fullyFundedDate":1746786403889,"projectUrl":"project/stock-the-shelves-spark-the-minds/9327792/","projectTitle":"Stock the Shelves, Spark the Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sinclair","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8673282_orig.jpg?crop=2208,2208,x490,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1691205028164","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mss-sinclair"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_3909","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1432,"numTeachers":96,"percentFrplEligible":82,"percentAsian":12,"percentBlack":20,"percentWhite":13,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":39,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":1,"percentMultiracialImputed":12,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"14.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":75.2,"schoolId":3909,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Skyline High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Skyline High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/oakland-unified-school-district/skyline-senior-high-school/3909"}
