Scientific concepts are often complex, abstract and inaccessible without engaging phenomena and hands-on manipulatives. Empowering students to design and build their own scientific devices fulfills two important educational needs: creating culturally-relevant phenomena and teaching modern career skills. During our distance-learning period, I'll be using the CNC kit to create demos and manipulatives for our forces and dynamics unit. When we are back in school, we'll be using it as a class to fabricate fixtures for labs and experiments, including a potential "design a subwoofer" lab for our "waves and energy" unit.
