Students immediately noticed the new binders, dividers, and supplies, and there was a real sense of excitement when they saw that everyone had what they needed—no one had to worry about missing materials or feeling unprepared.\r\n\r\nWe've already put the resources into action during our current unit. Students are using their binders and dividers to organize reading notes, vocabulary, and writing assignments by category, which has made it much easier for them to revisit their thinking and track their growth. The highlighters and paper have been especially powerful during close reading activities. Students are actively annotating texts and discussing how their interpretations change when they focus on key details. During group work, the markers and easel pads have helped students collaborate more effectively as they map out ideas and prepare for class discussions.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, many students were visibly excited and even relieved. Several commented that it \"felt like a real college class\" and appreciated having consistent supplies they could rely on every day. That sense of ownership has carried into their work.\r\n\r\nNext, students will be using these tools to prepare for a more formal writing assessment where they will build on their notes, annotations, and organized binders to craft a full analytical essay. The structure these resources provide is helping them feel more confident as they take on more complex academic tasks and I can already see that confidence growing in their writing and discussions.","fullyFundedDate":1746786403889,"projectUrl":"project/stock-the-shelves-spark-the-minds/9327792/","projectTitle":"Stock the Shelves, Spark the Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sinclair","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8673282_orig.jpg?crop=2208,2208,x490,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1691205028164","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mss-sinclair"},{"teacherId":57382,"projectId":9820232,"letterContent":"Yesterday was distribution day of Issue 7 of our school newspaper and the students celebrated their hard work with snacks that you donated! During Silent Sustained Reading (SSR), students now walk over to the bookshelf with purpose, scanning titles they specifically asked for and eagerly settling in to read. What used to feel like a quiet requirement has transformed into a focused, engaged reading time where students are building stamina, independence, and genuine enjoyment. These new books are helping students strengthen critical literacy skills like making inferences, analyzing character development, and connecting themes to their own lives, all while choosing texts that feel relevant and exciting to them.\r\n\r\nThese stories are also opening the door to deeper conversations and self-reflection. Students reading fantasy series are discussing world-building and power, while others reading contemporary novels are exploring identity, relationships, and mental health in ways that feel personal and validating. I've seen students who were previously reluctant readers become invested in finishing their books and even recommending titles to their classmates. One student who rarely completed independent reading assignments has already finished their first book and asked for the sequel, while another has found comfort in a story that reflects their own experiences.\r\n\r\nYour support has done more than provide books. Previously, inconsistent access meant some students relied on slow manual calculations or outdated/borrowed devices, leading to frequent errors, frustration, and lost time during labs and problem sets. With reliable calculators now available for every student, we've seen immediate improvements: physics students can quickly compute vector magnitudes and projectile trajectories, chemistry learners accurately handle stoichiometry and equilibrium constants without arithmetic slip-ups, and biology students efficiently analyze statistical data from experiments. This shift has allowed the class to focus on conceptual understanding, hypothesis testing, and real-world applications rather than basic computation—resulting in noticeably higher engagement, smoother group work, and fewer students falling behind due to tool disparities.\r\nThe impact has extended to measurable student outcomes and attitudes toward STEM. Students report feeling more confident tackling complex problems, with many noting they can now explore \"what-if\" scenarios in labs that were previously too time-consuming. Classroom assessments and lab reports show improved accuracy and depth in data analysis, and participation in advanced topics has increased as computational barriers dropped. Overall, the calculators have fostered greater equity—especially for students from lower-income backgrounds—while building procedural fluency and critical thinking skills that better prepare them for college-level science and standardized tests. This generous support has not only boosted short-term performance but also inspired lasting motivation in science, reinforcing that every student can succeed when given the right tools. Thank you again for making this possible—it's already creating ripple effects in student achievement and enthusiasm that will benefit our school community for years.","fullyFundedDate":1759776169858,"projectUrl":"project/provide-students-in-need-with-a-better-e/9566448/","projectTitle":"Provide Students in Need With a Better Education","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Clayton","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9739540_orig.jpg?crop=1041,1041,x0,y138&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1725917494524","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9739540"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_3909","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1432,"numTeachers":96,"percentFrplEligible":82,"percentAsian":12,"percentBlack":20,"percentWhite":13,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":39,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":1,"percentMultiracialImputed":12,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"14.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":75.2,"schoolId":3909,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Skyline High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Skyline High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/oakland-unified-school-district/skyline-senior-high-school/3909"}
