It definitely changed my state of being, and my students excel because I can provide them with things as basic as t printing so they can submit their work, especially in color. AS before, I wasn't able to because the ink was so expensive and the school wouldn't provide it. \r\n\r\nStudents stop going from teacher to teacher, or even to the office, to find someone who can print their work in color. And/or submitting work in Black and white because they do not have color ink at home.\r\n\r\nAs for the laptop, I couldn't be more grateful. It not only saved time, as I could take attendance from any place in my classroom, but I was able to get rid of my old computer, which would not connect to the internet most of the time. Students are using their binders and dividers to organize reading notes, vocabulary, and writing assignments by category, which has made it much easier for them to revisit their thinking and track their growth. The highlighters and paper have been especially powerful during close reading activities. Students are actively annotating texts and discussing how their interpretations change when they focus on key details. During group work, the markers and easel pads have helped students collaborate more effectively as they map out ideas and prepare for class discussions.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, many students were visibly excited and even relieved. Several commented that it \"felt like a real college class\" and appreciated having consistent supplies they could rely on every day. That sense of ownership has carried into their work.\r\n\r\nNext, students will be using these tools to prepare for a more formal writing assessment where they will build on their notes, annotations, and organized binders to craft a full analytical essay. These new books are helping students strengthen critical literacy skills like making inferences, analyzing character development, and connecting themes to their own lives, all while choosing texts that feel relevant and exciting to them.\r\n\r\nThese stories are also opening the door to deeper conversations and self-reflection. Students reading fantasy series are discussing world-building and power, while others reading contemporary novels are exploring identity, relationships, and mental health in ways that feel personal and validating.
