Students are using all items to actively take care of their health. Tissues and hand sanitizer have been especially important for cold season. They discovered that podcasting allows them to share their perspectives, interview classmates, and create thoughtful episodes that reflect their lived experiences. The creative freedom and real-world relevance of the work make the process engaging and empowering.\r\n\r\nStudents have grown increasingly comfortable with the technology and now use the equipment with confidence during podcast production. Several students who are typically quiet in class have embraced the project, finding their voice behind the microphone and taking on roles such as audio editing, organizing show segments, and managing equipment. My classroom is definitely running more smoothly these days. Students are welcomed into the classroom with a bright cheerful little rug that makes the space feel more comfortable and helps prevent mud from being tracked into the classroom on rainy days. \r\n\r\nStudents then turn in their cell phones to the wooden box that I received through your donations! Without a cell phone distracting them, students are now much more likely to engage in the class discussions and get work done. This has truly changed the tenor of the classroom this school year. \r\n\r\nLastly, students are also able to charge their devices thanks to the purchase of the charging station. Many students use chromebooks and computers throughout the day and need to charge them. Providing students with this helpful station is a way to show students that I am working with them to give them what they need to succeed. Unfortunately, one of the stories they needed to cover was a school shooting. Fortunately, the student who was shot will recover. In next weeks's issue, the newspaper will make a demand of the school leaders for change in their first editorial.\r\n\r\nPlease take a look at the photos that we have uploaded so you can see students in action. The most heartening thing is to see students off their cell phones reading news about each other. It's also beautiful to see students interviewing people they normally would not have talked to.
