These resources have helped reinforce the idea that our classroom is a space where their voices, creativity, and perspectives matter.\r\n\r\nWe have been using the notebooks for personal reflections, written responses, and explorations of identity and community. Students are able to use their journals to make connections between their own experiences and the topics we study in Ethnic Studies. The poster paper and glue give students opportunities to work together, organize their thinking visually, and bring their ideas to life through collaborative projects. As we continue learning about ourselves, our communities, and the world around us, students will use these materials to develop projects that reflect their understanding of the histories, experiences, and perspectives we explore in class. One student has taken it upon himself to use the vacuum to clean the gunk from the bottom of the tanks.\r\nHaving living things in the classroom is such a great way for students to engage with other species. They were totally into watching our mealworms when we had them and they find the fish pretty fascinating. It's relaxing to watch the fish swim around and to see what types of behavior they express.
