At my school, we care deeply about building a culture of reading. Having a diversity of books in the classroom allows students to find a book that they will enjoy reading. Every day in Homeroom, we read for 20 minutes at the beginning so it's very important that students find a book they like! Besides culturally relevant books, the classroom set of headphones will help my students with special needs access more literature online. My new science curriculum involves a lot of reading and writing, so a renewed interest in reading will be fundamental to their ability to engage with rigorous, grade-level material.
