With your help, we were able to complete CPR and first aid certification for adult and pediatric patients. We were able to practice scenarios in which a patient was choking and then became unconscious, requiring CPR.\r\nWe were also able to practice assessing responsive patients with blood pressure cuffs and stethoscopes, and even to assess our own blood pressure before and after spending time in nature. These activities are real world relevant, hands on, and interesting for the students. They drew students in who are sometimes disengaged and helped them feel more capable and connected.\r\n\r\nThese types of activities are fun, but they are also crucial for helping students feel connected to their education. The day to day schoolwork is important for building students' base knowledge, but they can feel like drudgery. Real world connections give students the endurance and perspective to stick with the more day to day type of assignments that can feel tedious.\r\n\r\nThank you for sharing your time, resources, and energy with our students. Being able to display notes, diagrams, and demonstrations helps all learners—especially visual learners—better understand complex science topics.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for students has been having more consistent access to technology and hands-on materials. When lessons include visuals, interactive activities, or lab-style learning, student engagement increases immediately. Students are more eager to participate, ask questions, and collaborate with one another. Several students who previously struggled to stay focused have shown noticeable improvement when lessons are supported by visuals and hands-on components rather than just paper-based instruction.\r\n\r\nThese resources help create a more equitable learning environment by giving my students access to the same types of tools many of them see used outside of school. Students used a written autoethnography to guide the creation of their display in order to bring to life the story of who they are, where they came from, and how they became THEM! \r\n\r\nThe class days that we used to create and enjoy each other's company could not have been possible without you. It was a joy to see the students interact with all of the supplies to picture their shadowboxes and create a vision of their identities. \r\n\r\nThe shadowbox and autoethnography assignments were the culmination of their Identity unit and now we are onto learning about Dominant and Resistance Narratives and how the students can use their foundational identity knowledge to see how oppression seeks to either lift them up or tear them down in the society we live in today.
