The garden has been a huge success as the kids absolutely love it! With the materials you supplied, along with additional garden boxes I've added over the years, we're now growing basil, mint, rosemary, strawberries, beans, radishes and corn. The students enjoy getting their hands dirty and taking responsibility for their plants, and there's something genuinely healing about working with nature. On their own, they even began weeding outside the garden boxes to care for the entire patio area connected to our classroom. The occupational therapist and I have created lessons using the garden materials — for example, the students sliced lemons and made basil or mint water, which they loved. We have also done taste testing of strawberries and radishes.\r\n\r\nYour support also made it possible to set up podcasting equipment, which has been a highlight for several students. The boys who dreamed of creating a Pokémon podcast were thrilled to have a real studio setup. They've already recorded several episodes exploring the creator of Pokémon, who also has autism, and sharing details about their favorite characters. No pictures are included for their privacy, but be assured, you made some 11 year old kids very happy! \r\n\r\nHaving the backing of people and organizations like you makes an incredible impact, on students and on the adults in their lives like me visualizing more for them.
