While a refrigerator may not seem like the most exciting piece of classroom equipment, it has already become one of the most valuable resources in our STEM classroom.\r\n\r\nEvery Friday, my students participate in what we call Passion Project Fridays. Students who are on track academically earn the opportunity to spend the day exploring projects that genuinely interest them. Some are designing recipes and experimenting with food science, while others are learning about different cultures through cooking. Having a dependable, full-size refrigerator means students can safely store ingredients over multiple days instead of trying to complete everything in a single class period or worrying that their materials will spoil.\r\n\r\nThe refrigerator has also made a tremendous difference for our after-school Robotics Club. Our student-run fundraising store sells cold drinks and ice cream to help offset the costs of robotics competitions, STEM field trips, and international educational travel opportunities. Students then shot 50 free throws, tracked how many they made, figured out their free throw percentage as a decimal then percent, figured out 10 of their friends free throw percentages, and then worked as a class to put everyone's percentages in order least to greatest comparing them to the likes of Ls Ron Steph Michael Kobe. Because of you, our students are now able to access toys and learning materials in ways that simply weren't possible before, given their motor limitations. We are using the computer desks every day to bring activities closer to students' wheelchairs, allowing them to reach, explore, and participate more independently. Switch-adapted toys, lights, and sensory materials have quickly become classroom favorites, giving students the ability to activate and control their environment. We've even used the phone holders to position videos right on wheelchair trays and walkers so students can easily see and engage. The impact has been immediate—not just for students, but for staff, who are now more excited and creative in setting up meaningful, accessible activities.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the classroom was filled with excitement and curiosity. Some students from other classrooms even came over to help build materials and set it up. We love it when the school embraces this class! One of my favorite moments was watching a student independently activate the light toy again and again, smiling and laughing each time as they realized they were in control. Others have loved exploring hands-on materials like Squigs and the sensory mats. Overall, these tools have truly brought more light, energy, and joy into our classroom.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, we are now building on this momentum by creating more structured opportunities for choice-making, cause-and-effect learning, and communication. Our next steps include expanding switch use across more activities and continuing to adapt lessons so every student can actively participate.
