Raising reading levels in my classes, as well as our school, is top priority. I have developed a guided reading program that has proven effective over the years, but has suffered due to a reduction in the availability of books over the last 8 to 10 years. My reading program raises the average reading level of a student by two and a half reading levels in the course of one school year. The books purchased will go directly into my 8th grade class and through me directly into the hands of my students. This expanded library allows me to meet the individual literacy needs of my students. It allows me to quickly match a student with a book that meets their reading level and interest level greatly increasing a students desire to read. For many of my students this will be the first time they have started and completed a book on their own.
