I am helping advise our school's STEM club this year and one of the projects I have been tasked with assisting with is the skill of soldering as the students learn about electronics. My students are economically disadvantaged but they are excited about learning and improving their current circumstances. These are good kids with a lot of potential. Despite the zip code in which they reside, they work hard to overcome numerous obstacles in their paths which include poverty, neglect, trauma, food insecurity, etc. A lot of the stories about my students' backgrounds are heartbreaking, but it tells you a lot about the students and their resiliency that they continue to show up day after day and seek out an education, which many believe will be the key to helping themselves and their families in the future.
