My students were so thrilled to see the new supplies that were donated, they always ask me where we obtained these things and I let them know about your generous contribution. The journal tablets are used daily when students enter the classroom, and it becomes such an important part of the day where I am walking around the classroom, teaching students their handwriting, foundational writing elements such as capitalization, spacing and punctuations.\r\nAdditionally, having large supply of sentences strips is helpful as I use them weekly, whether I'm ripping the strips for individual words, or showing students in my small group how to correctly form a letter.\r\nAs you can see in the pictures I shared, our classroom is filled with writing activities, where students are encouraged and celebrated as they become early writers!\r\nMahalo for your generous support.","fullyFundedDate":1755721905464,"projectUrl":"project/star-writer-supplies/9418685/","projectTitle":"Star Writer Supplies","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mickelson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2045413_orig.jpg?crop=1921,1921,x174,y752&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1579921967342","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2045413"},{"teacherId":9268899,"projectId":9720490,"letterContent":"On behalf of my first grade class, we would like to give a big Mahalo! to the Hawaii Department of Education for supporting our project, \"Tools to Spark Joy in Learning\", and to Ripple for matching an additional donation that was needed to fully fund the project. \r\n\tAs soon as I introduced all the new math games and phonics centers from this project, my students couldn't wait to start using them! It's so rewarding to watch students that are excited to participate in learning activities. The Playstix Construction Set was added to a smaller set that we already had in our classroom, and now that center can accommodate more students working together, collaborating and stretching their STEM muscles. The Giant Magnetic Pattern Blocks will enable the students to take their exploration of geometry concepts from the horizontal to the vertical, on a non-permanent surface, which can help enhance their collaboration and learning endeavors. My students are also very much enjoying using the Crayola Colors of the World crayons, not just for artwork involving people, but for some of our plant and animal creations that benefit from more than just one or two shades of brown. However, I think their favorite acquisition from this project is the JBL Bluetooth Speaker. Not only are they enjoying having music to dance to at recess, they like that we can explore musical concepts in the classroom, or just enjoy some quiet background music during independent work time.\r\n\tThe storage boxes, zipper pouches, and rolling cart are probably much more exciting for me than for the students, but I believe they all appreciate that our classroom is a well organized space, with learning materials easily accessible. These organizing supplies are helping me to promote the students' independence and responsibility that's so important to nurture in first grade. The arrival of the iPad mini, stylus pens, and screen protector has sparked so much joy and creativity in my classroom at Kamali'i Elementary School. Your generosity has already made a profound impact on how my students learn and express themselves.\r\n\r\nWhile many of us use tablets at home for browsing or watching videos, in our classroom, this iPad has become a powerful creation station. For my youngest students, the combination of the stylus and the \"paperfeel\" screen protector is magical. It gives them the tactile feedback they need to practice forming letters and drawing shapes, building essential fine motor skills in a way that feels like fun, not work. For my older students, it's a multimedia studio. They can research a topic, illustrate a scene from a story they're writing, or even take photos to document a science experiment. This technology is helping them bridge the gap between traditional literacy and the digital literacy they will need for the rest of their lives.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for my students has been the stylus. The moment they realized they could draw with such precision—just like a \"real artist\"—their eyes lit up. The ability to choose any color imaginable, try a new idea, and simply tap \"undo\" if it doesn't work has removed the fear of making mistakes. It's given them incredible creative confidence. I've already seen a remarkable change in one of my students who typically struggles with writing. Holding a pencil can be a challenge, but with the iPad, he is now our most enthusiastic storyteller. He has started creating detailed, multi-page digital \"comic books,\" drawing out his characters and scenes. He is still learning about plot and sequencing, but he is doing it with a pride and passion I had not seen before.\r\n\r\nYour donation has done more than just provide a piece of technology; it has provided a new way for my students to see themselves as authors, artists, and creators.
