I have seen improvement in mental math skills, and how my students explain their mathematical thinking. Mouse Trap takes a while to set up but once we have it up and running, the kids have a good time capturing each other with the chain-reaction they set in motion. I think their favorite game is Clue. Using deductive thinking, they are getting really good at determining who committed the crime, with what weapon, and in which room. Rubik's Cube is definitely a challenge but my students are facing it head on. Some are close to learning all of the algorithms they need to solve the Cube. We use the timers to track their progress. An unexpected benefit I am seeing with the Rubik's Cubes is improved communication skills. Students are working more cooperatively - explaining how to solve the cube - and that's transferring to other aspects of school. \r\n\r\nYour donation is really making a difference in the lives of my students. When the boxes of new soccer balls, goals, and agility gear arrived at our school, the atmosphere was like a championship game. My students—the \"pioneers\" of our second-year program—were hovering around the packages with wide eyes, hardly believing the gear was actually for them. It was a powerful moment that showed them their hard work is being recognized by people who truly believe in their potential.\r\n\r\nThe moment we stepped onto the pitch with enough soccer balls for our team, our practice transformed from a disorganized scramble into a focused training session. In the past, kids would have to wait in a long line for their turn to kick, but now, we can get through our drills quickly with all the available balls. We recently used the new agility spots to set up a complex passing drill, and the difference in their engagement was night and day. Because they aren't standing around waiting, they are staying active, building their skills twice as fast, and taking a visible pride in using \"pro-grade\" equipment that they know they have to take care of.\r\n\r\nNow that we have the right foundation, my lesson plan has shifted from basic survival to advanced teamwork and strategy. We are working on \"spatial awareness\" drills that were impossible to teach without enough markers and balls.
