Flexible seating would bring so many benefits to my fifth graders. First, alternate seating will give my students the ability of choice in the classroom. Giving my students a choice allows them to have more control over their learning. Being able to choose is important to my students, especially after having to navigate distance learning. During the pandemic, my students did not have much of a choice in anything. Flexible seating promotes the NVACS by promoting mental, social, and physical activity (1.NP.5.2). Flexible seating means that students can rock, lean, and just move more throughout the academic day. Physical activity allows students to be more alert and on task; therefore, teachers can expect less disruption from bored students. My class would really benefit from having alternative seating!
