Students who typically need more encouragement to participate were noticeably more motivated, and several were able to sustain attention for longer periods than usual. The play-based nature of the materials helped reduce anxiety and frustration, allowing students to feel more confident and successful as they practiced important skills.\r\n\r\nOne meaningful moment occurred during a session where students used the fine motor toys alongside prewriting activities. Students who often resist writing tasks were more willing to participate after warming up with the games, and they transitioned more smoothly into structured work. The fluorescent light covers also made a noticeable difference—students who are sensitive to bright lighting appeared more comfortable and better able to focus, which positively impacted the overall session.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, these materials will continue to support skill-building in a more structured way. Over the years I have spent thousands of my own dollars on my students, so I so appreciate this platform developed specifically to help teachers cover some of these costs. This project consisted of things like folders, sit spots, tape, labels, treasure box incentives, whiteboards, etc. Just those items that contribute to daily function, procedures, routines, and classroom management. We recently used the materials during a hands-on science investigation where students worked in small groups to explore and test their hypotheses. Having access to these new tools allowed every student to actively participate instead of simply observing. \r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their eyes lit up with excitement. There were gasps, huge smiles, and so many eager questions about when they could start using everything. It was clear right away that these materials made them feel valued and supported.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, we are able to take our current lessons even further. Our next steps include expanding our project into a deeper research and presentation phase, where students will apply what they've learned to real-world scenarios. From the moment the mats arrived, my students were visibly excited. Some students smiled and pointed, others explored the texture with their hands, and a few even gave their mats little hugs before settling down. For many of our students, transitions—especially to quiet time—can be difficult. These mats have helped turn that part of our day into a peaceful and positive experience, offering each child a personal, familiar space that feels safe and inviting.\r\n\r\nWe've already seen the difference these mats are making. One student who usually struggles with rest time has been able to lie quietly and calmly each day since the mats arrived. The mats have also given us more opportunities to work on routines and self-regulation, as students learn to go to their mats independently and prepare for quiet time with less prompting. As we move forward, we'll continue using this calm period to build on social-emotional goals, like managing feelings and respecting others' quiet space. This project may seem simple, but it has truly supported both learning and well-being in our classroom.\r\n\r\nThank you again for making this possible.
