Many of my students are multilingual learners or brand new to AP science, and knowing they will soon get to see real structures rather than just study diagrams has boosted their confidence and excitement.\r\n\r\nIn March, we begin our Evolution unit, which includes comparative anatomy. The snacks you helped provide were especially appreciated during our extended testing sessions—students were visibly re-energized after a quick snack break, allowing them to stay focused and finish strong. The boost made a real difference in their endurance and morale during a challenging academic assessment.\r\n\r\nIn addition to supporting our testing needs, your contributions also helped bring some fun and excitement into our classroom. We used some of the snacks as prizes during review games, which turned preparation into a high-energy, competitive experience that students looked forward to. The board games were incorporated into end-of-class game time, where students played educational and collaborative games—turning extra time into meaningful engagement rather than idle minutes.\r\n\r\nPerhaps most exciting of all, these resources helped bring literature to life during our escape room station activities introducing George Orwell's classic novella, Animal Farm. Several students immediately said things like, \"Now I don't have to worry about being hungry all morning,\" and one student quietly told me, \"This helps me so much—I can think now.\" Their gratitude was heartfelt, and it was clear how much this small gesture meant to them.\r\n\r\nNext, we're continuing to build on this supportive classroom environment by pairing the snack routine with morning goal-setting and check-ins. The binders you provided have been especially meaningful—many of my freshmen were thrilled to receive their own, and for some, it's the first time they've had a dedicated place to track their work. Watching students flip through their binders with pride and realizing, \"This is mine, I can keep everything together now,\" was a powerful moment.\r\n\r\nThe clear storage boxes have already transformed our lab days. In a small classroom, keeping materials accessible and tidy can be a real challenge. Now, students know exactly where to find what they need, which allows us to spend more time experimenting and less time scrambling for supplies.\r\n\r\nThe index cards are being used daily—for quick reviews, student-created flashcards, and even group brainstorming. Students like the flexibility of jotting down ideas and then rearranging them during discussions.\r\n\r\nFinally, the bookshelf has given us a central hub for binders. Students don't have to worry about losing their materials at home; instead, they have a safe space in the classroom to keep their work. It's fostering accountability and easing stress, especially for students facing challenging circumstances.\r\n\r\nNext steps: We're building on these foundations by starting our next big unit project, where students will use their binders to track long-term lab data and reflections. They'll store their lab notes and index card study sets in one place, and the organized storage system means labs can flow more smoothly. Your support has laid the groundwork for a more structured, engaging, and equitable classroom experience.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students the chance to learn with dignity, pride, and curiosity.","fullyFundedDate":1690838081607,"projectUrl":"project/organize-empower-equipping-future-min/7543112/","projectTitle":"Organize & Empower: Equipping Future Minds!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Johnston","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3770809_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1571267416852","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3770809"},{"teacherId":4739339,"projectId":9240133,"letterContent":"A series that captures a student's interest is the goldmine, the ultimate reward for bringing new texts into a classroom, new stories within their reach. Your donation increases the likelihood of this happening. \r\n\r\nNot only are these books sitting on bookshelves in a cozy \"library\" in the corner of my classroom, but they are highlighted in First Chapter Friday--an activity that is much like it sounds: I introduce the book and quickly cover its premise, then read a bit of the first chapter. Students discover new-to-them texts through this activity. Those who are already readers check the books out immediately. But the reluctant readers, when the reluctant readers peruse the book and ask if they can borrow it: that is the biggest reward as a teacher.\r\n\r\nNothing is more powerful than hearing students tell me how much they liked or loved a book.
