Teaching over 700 elementary students every week means our music room is always on the go, and these new space-saving stools have made a huge difference in our day-to-day routine. When the kids first walked in and saw them, they were thrilled to have their own \"musician chairs.\" They instantly noticed how easy the stools are to pull out and stack away, which saves us so much floor space. Now, we can quickly switch from seated ukulele practice to floor movement and games without any hassle.\r\n\r\nThe stools have also helped a lot with their posture and instrument technique. Sitting up tall makes it so much easier for them to manage their breath control and press down on ukulele strings without struggling for balance on the floor. Paired with picture books like 5 Little Ducks and Down by the Bay, the students will be strumming along as we read. It's been wonderful watching them sit proudly, play together, and then quickly clean up their spots when we're finished.\r\n\r\nNext, we plan to start combining chords into group songs and letting the kids create their own musical accompaniments for storybooks. Coming back from summer break to see our ukuleles displayed neatly on ukulele hooks on the coat rack was an amazing surprise. In the past, our instruments were locked away in high cabinets out of reach. Seeing them hanging up like a real studio gallery immediately sparked so much excitement for our upcoming ukulele unit! Even my younger grade students have expressed such curiosity of what the ukuleles are. They are excited to learn them as they get to 5th and 6th grade.\r\n\r\nEven before hitting our first chord, these new resources have already transformed our space. Having the ukuleles on the coat rack clears up floor space for my younger grade levels to dance and move. Some of my taller students will benefit so much with the tenor ukulele, with the wider frets that will give their bigger hands a comfortable fit when we start playing.\r\n\r\nWe are officially kicking off our ukulele lessons next week, and thanks to you, we won't waste a single minute playing \"delivery person\" with cabinet doors. The kids will be able to grab their instruments right off the coat rack and dive straight into making music. Students use them on their desks throughout the day to give their feet a quiet way to move while they work. I have noticed that students who have a hard time sitting still are able to stay more focused and engaged when they can move their feet. They were so excited when they first saw the bouncy bands and couldn't wait to try them!\r\n\r\nThe bands have become a simple but valuable tool in our classroom. Students are learning that movement can help them focus and that different learners may need different tools to be successful. My goal is to eventually have a bouncy band for every student in my classroom so that all 30 students have access to this helpful tool when they need it. We will continue using the bands during independent work, reading, and other times when students need to concentrate. Students can practice basic facts, build fluency, and strengthen their understanding of numbers while receiving immediate opportunities to apply what they know. This extra practice is especially important as we work toward more challenging fourth-grade skills such as multi-digit multiplication and long division.\r\n\r\nWhat excites my students most is that they get to learn while playing and solving problems. They are eager to work through challenges, collaborate with classmates, and see if they can solve the next problem. I have also noticed that students who sometimes struggle or lack confidence in math are more willing to participate when the learning feels like a game. These resources give them a chance to experience success, build confidence, and keep trying when a problem is challenging. Instead of using calculators to do the work for them, my students first solve each problem on their own and then use the calculators to check their answers. This immediate feedback helps them identify mistakes, correct their thinking, and strengthen their understanding of math concepts.\r\n\r\nThe calculators have quickly become one of my students' favorite learning tools.
