During a recent lesson on designing solutions to real-world problems (Utah SEEd standard 3.3.4), students used the Fairy Tale Engineering Kit to build a bridge for the Three Billy Goats Gruff. They worked in teams to brainstorm ideas, draw blueprints, and build prototypes. As they tested and adjusted their bridges, I saw collaboration, critical thinking, and so much pride in their work.\r\n These moments are helping them connect science concepts to the real world in ways that reading from a textbook simply cannot.\r\nWe are now using these STEM tools during science instruction, small group stations, and early finisher time. This benefitted most of my students during different programs and activities. It helped them express big feelings and emotions better and empowered them to understand how teachers can support them during these moments at school.\r\n\r\nOur classroom thrived, and the quiet books provided students with educational quiet activities to keep their hands busy while learning to sit at circle time, engage in table activities, or during playtime when a student chose this activity over others.\r\n\r\nIt was a beautiful reminder of the importance of meeting all students where they are, finding ways for them to express big ideas and feelings, and empowering them to ask for what they need. However, without the resources, they cannot ask for help.
