Having a clean, functional workspace makes a world of difference for my students, and your support has truly enhanced our learning environment.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new whiteboard, they immediately noticed how bright and clean it was. They were so excited to ditch our old, worn-out board and couldn't wait to grab a marker and start using it right away.\r\n\r\nSince setting it up, it has become our primary hub for small-group instruction. We use it constantly for reteaching core concepts and writing out math problems step-by-step. Having this dedicated space allows my students to physically come up to the board, work through problems, and visually strengthen their skills in a way that paper and pencil just can't match. Seeing their work on a large, high-contrast surface helps build their confidence and keeps everyone engaged.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward with our current units, our next step is to continue building student independence. My students will be taking turns coming up to the board to model problem-solving strategies for their peers and talk through their reasoning as they tackle new math and reading concepts.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in our classroom and giving my students the visual tools they need to thrive every day!","fullyFundedDate":1786911030818,"projectUrl":"project/bright-minds-big-whiteboard/10447568/","projectTitle":"Bright Minds, Big Whiteboard","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Atkin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8357750_orig.jpg?crop=2400,2400,x0,y168&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759843010784","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/alysa-atkin"},{"teacherId":4649046,"projectId":10509121,"letterContent":"Thanks so much for helping to fund our snack project. Students were genuinely excited when they saw fresh pencils, calculators, tissues, and other materials stocked and ready to use. It may seem simple, but having the tools they need right away helps students feel prepared, comfortable, and confident when they walk into class each day.\r\n\r\nOne moment that stood out was during a math lesson when students worked in small groups to solve multi-step problems. Because we had enough calculators available, every student was able to participate without waiting or feeling left out. I noticed students were more willing to try challenging problems because they had the resources they needed in front of them.\r\n\r\nThe tissues, wipes, and bandages have also helped us maintain a cleaner and more supportive classroom environment. Instead of interruptions caused by missing supplies, students can stay focused on learning, and classroom routines run much more smoothly.\r\n\r\nAs we finish the school year, students continue to build skills in reading comprehension, writing, and math problem-solving. We are working on collaborative activities, independent assignments, and end-of-year review projects that require students to stay organized and engaged each day. Because of your generosity, my students were able to create two complete literacy kits to share with other special education classrooms in our building. That's not just two sets of books—it's two opportunities for other students to feel supported, included, and capable as readers. My students are incredibly resilient; many face challenges with reading and writing, yet they show up each day, try their best, and support one another. The new books and materials have helped us focus on essential skills like comprehension, vocabulary development in both English and Spanish, and building confidence through reading aloud and discussion. In our classroom, reading is active and collaborative—students work together, use question cards and sentence starters, and celebrate progress at every level.\r\n\r\nWhat makes this project especially meaningful is the way it empowered my students to become leaders. They took ownership in creating resources that will help others succeed, turning their own learning experiences into tools for their peers. Some students who are typically more reserved stepped up in powerful ways—helping design materials, select books, and think through how to make reading more accessible for all learners. Through this process, they built not only literacy skills but also empathy, confidence, and a sense of purpose.
