My project aims to move my students into the 21st century by providing them with opportunities and the tools that real scientists and engineers use to solve problems and collect authentic, quantitative data. Providing my students with the opportunities to use modern technologies and tools such as digital scales will allow my budding scientists to more accurately measure the mass of rock and mineral samples and then accurately calculate for the density of unknown substances. Providing my students with digital stopwatches will also allow them to more accurately measure the elapsed time that it takes for longitudinal and transverse waves to propagate through different materials as they investigate the properties of waves.
