After the student builds the circuit using the appropriate boxes, devices, wire and proper tools for an electrician. These light covers have made a huge impact in how the students work. With a modified block schedule our students are in class for 95 minutes. All the harsh lighting from overhead and then the glare from the desktop computer screens make it difficult at times for students to consistently work on computer projects and be productive for such a long period of time.\r\n\r\nStudents were so excited when they saw the light covers had been installed. As we unpacked the boxes together, one student looked at the crisp whiteboards and asked, \"Wait, do we actually get to work out problems on these instead of just writing in a notebook?\" That immediate buy-in set an energetic tone for our math classroom.\r\n\r\nThese supplies have completely transformed how my students approach daily problem-solving. Math can feel intimidating, but mini whiteboards lower the stakes—students aren't afraid to make a mistake when a quick swipe of an eraser lets them try again without leaving permanent marks on paper. During a recent lesson on multi-step equations, students grabbed clipboards and whiteboards to work in pairs around the room. One student who usually struggles with confidence was actively sketching out steps, erasing errors on the fly, and holding up her board with a grin to show me her final answer.\r\n\r\nOur next step is using these tools for collaborative error-analysis stations. Students will use the clipboards and activity paper to navigate around the room, identify common mathematical missteps on target problems, and map out corrected solutions directly on their whiteboards for peer reviews. The compartment caddies also transformed the daily routine. Instead of losing valuable instructional time, students now have an organized supply hub readily available for them. \r\n\r\n We recently used the erasable gel pens and transparent sticky note during collaborative math and reading groups. The students used the transparent sticky notes while reading various texts to map out their thinking. Using the erasable pens have also helped build confidence because they no longer worry about making a mistake while writing so they are able to actively write and sketch their ideas which allows them to refine their work.\r\n\r\nThe mini ducks and sweet treats have also become our official \"Effort & Attitude\" awards. They have already made a real difference to my students, since they now have the chance to see microbes for themselves rather than just looking at pictures in a textbook or on a screen. We already used them to study various types of cells a couple of weeks ago. Most of them have never seen a microscope in person, let alone used one. They were all excited to see what normally can't be seen with the naked eye. Something we're trying to do in NC public schools is to make connections between our course curriculum and the real world. For my students, seeing cells and other microscopic structures with their own eyes makes the subject much more real.\r\n\r\nSome of our students are interested in completing a science fair this year. At least one participant is interested in culturing bacteria. These microscopes are equipped with an oil immersion lens, so we should be able to use them to inspect whatever the student(s) end up growing.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generosity.
