I have been a teacher for twenty-six years, and the supplies and materials you donated were mainly supplies to motivate my students this year. All have made an incredible impact.\r\n\r\nThe first thing I introduced to my students were the major purchase of the wobbly chairs. All of my students LOVE using them, and they were so excited to see them when I first put them out for the students. We take turns using them throughout the day, but I also use them with a few of my students with ADHD. Sitting on these chairs allow them to be a bit wiggly while still working. They have been a game changer for those few students. \r\n\r\nWe are in the midst of state testing, and my third graders are taking these high-stakes tests for the very first time. The remainder of my purchases have been used for testing incentives. Each morning of testing, I have given my students a trinket along with a saying to go along with it. A few of the sayings are: \"Calm your jitters with these cute critters\" (when I gave them a squishy animal), \"You will do a SCENT-sational job on the test (a smelly pencil to use during testing), \"You've got the WRITE stuff\" (another class favorite SMENCIL), and \"All work and then PLAY\" (for the play-doh canisters). After testing, we used the Play-doh to have some art challenges in class. We all had a blast. Several students have kept their little tags all together and continue to read them after the test. A few students also said testing was fun because of the fun prizes they received each day. Thank you for making that happen!\r\n\r\nI hope this trend can continue in years to come, to give prizes and motivate students to do well during a stressful few days for them. The headphones have been really helpful during independent work and technology time, and the card games and board games have given students fun ways to practice skills while working together. The new rug has definitely been the favorite. We use it during whole group lessons, read alouds, and class discussions, and it has helped make our classroom feel even more calm and welcoming. These materials fit our project, Calm Minds and Happy Learning in Miss Bennett's Classroom, so well and have already been such a great addition.\r\n\r\nMy students were so excited when they first saw everything. The rug got the biggest reaction right away, and they were so happy to have a new space to gather together. They even tiptoed and took their shoes off because they didn't want to get it dirty! They were also really excited about the games and headphones and couldn't wait to start using them. It made our classroom feel extra special for them.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we will keep using these resources throughout the school day. The headphones will support students during independent and online work, the games will be used for skill practice and classroom community, and the rug will continue to be our meeting spot for lessons and discussions. These resources are helping us build a classroom that feels calm, happy, and ready for learning.","fullyFundedDate":1768078248273,"projectUrl":"project/calm-minds-and-happy-learning-in-miss-be/9991459/","projectTitle":"Calm Minds and Happy Learning in Miss Bennett’s Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bennett","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9440570"},{"teacherId":6549085,"projectId":9988817,"letterContent":"Thanks to your incredible generosity, our classroom now has access to a Chromebook cart, and it has made a powerful impact on student learning. With consistent access to devices, students are able to engage in meaningful, technology-rich lessons every day. Chromebooks allow us to incorporate interactive reading and math programs, research projects, and writing activities that provide immediate feedback and support. This helps me better meet each student where they are, allowing for differentiated instruction so all learners can grow at their own pace.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for my students has been having their own device to use during lessons. They feel a sense of independence and responsibility when working on their Chromebooks, and they love being able to explore learning in a hands-on, engaging way. Whether they are practicing skills through educational programs, creating digital stories, or collaborating with classmates, the excitement and motivation in our classroom has noticeably increased. Learning feels more like an adventure, and students are eager to participate.\r\n\r\nSeveral students, especially those who benefit from extra practice or alternative ways of learning, have truly thrived with the addition of our Chromebook cart. Students who may have struggled with traditional methods are now more confident and willing to take risks, thanks to the interactive and supportive nature of the programs we use. It was one of those moments where everything just clicked, and it wouldn't have been possible without your contribution.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new materials, their excitement was immediate and genuine. We are currently using the new classroom rug as our central gathering hub; it has become the designated spot for morning meetings and focused reading time, helping students stay organized and personally spaced. Additionally, the new classroom cart has been a lifesaver for our weekly workflow. It allows me to keep all the paperwork and assignments neatly filed by day, ensuring that students can easily access what they need without the usual clutter. Having a steady supply of basic classroom materials has also removed barriers for my students, allowing them to dive straight into their \"everyday\" tasks with confidence and the right tools in hand.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, the energy in the room was electric. They were genuinely excited to see the vibrant new rug and the organized cart, but more than that, they felt truly honored. It was a powerful moment for them to realize that people outside our school walls cared enough to invest in their success. This boost in morale was immediate; seeing the \"newness\" of their environment made them take an extra sense of pride in keeping our space clean and ready for work.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next steps involve using this newfound organization to tackle our upcoming curriculum units with even greater focus. Now that we have a streamlined system for distributing and collecting paperwork via our new cart, we are transitioning into a more independent phase of our current project. Students will be using their daily supplies to build out their individual portfolios, and we plan to use our rug as a \"stage\" where each student will eventually share their completed work with the rest of the class. Having a wide range of texts allows me to introduce lessons on making inferences, identifying themes, and developing critical thinking skills that go beyond simply \"sounding out words.\" These books have truly become tools for curiosity and discovery.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom now feels vibrant and alive. Students eagerly browse the shelves during independent reading time, often trading recommendations with one another and proudly sharing passages that made them laugh or think deeply. Small group discussions are filled with excitement, as students use their new texts to support their opinions and practice talking about books in a meaningful way. The classroom library has quickly become a central part of our daily routine, where students feel empowered to choose books that match their interests and reading levels.\r\n\r\nOne student in particular, who previously struggled to find books that held her attention, has now fallen in love with a new series from our library. She carries her book everywhere—even reading during transition times—and beams when she tells her classmates about the story. Another student, who had been hesitant to read aloud, now volunteers during group discussions because he feels confident with the new books he's been practicing.
