Our labels and name tags are also helping us keep materials organized and create a classroom where students feel that everything has a place and everyone belongs.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new materials, they were excited to see supplies that they could use for their learning and projects. They especially loved the colorful paper and having their own organized folders. It may seem like a small thing, but having the right supplies helps students feel prepared, independent, and proud of their work.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue using these resources throughout the school year as we work on reading, writing, math, and hands-on projects. Your generosity has already made a meaningful difference in our classroom.\r\n\r\nOur new carpet has quickly become one of our favorite places in the room. Each day, my firsties gather on the carpet for phonics lessons, read-alouds, math conversations, and morning meetings. It has created a cozy, welcoming space where we can learn together, share ideas, and celebrate our successes. The students were so excited when they first saw the carpet and immediately wanted to sit together on it!\r\n\r\nThe ice packs have also been a wonderful addition to our classroom. First grade comes with plenty of little bumps and bruises, and having ice packs readily available allows me to comfort students quickly and help them get back to learning.\r\n\r\nOur Brag Tag hooks have perhaps created the biggest sense of excitement. Students love seeing their accomplishments displayed and proudly showing their classmates the Brag Tags they have earned. It has become a wonderful way to celebrate hard work, kindness, growth, and perseverance. Watching students encourage one another and cheer each other on has been incredibly special.\r\n\r\nRight now, we are continuing to build our foundational reading skills through phonics, decoding, and daily reading practice. We are also learning how to be a strong classroom community—one where we work hard, support one another, and celebrate progress. The next step is to continue building confidence as readers, mathematicians, and problem-solvers while reminding students that learning takes practice and that mistakes help our brains grow.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in my first graders. One student spun it gently, looked at me with wide eyes, and asked, \"Is this really for us, like in a real bookstore?\" Having books displayed cover-out at their eye level made the library feel brand new, exciting, and entirely theirs.\r\n\r\nWe immediately put the new shelf to work during our daily independent reading block. Instead of digging through crammed, dark plastic bins where book covers were hidden, students now independently stroll over, give the shelf a spin, and browse visually. A specific moment that stood out happened last week during our genre-exploration unit: a student who usually hesitates to pick up a book spent three full minutes happily spinning the shelf, admiring the covers, and finally pulled off a non-fiction book about space that they haven't put down since. The simple physical rotation has turned choosing a book from a chore into an engaging, interactive experience.","fullyFundedDate":1784306247856,"projectUrl":"project/spinning-into-a-good-book/10306193/","projectTitle":"Spinning Into a Good Book!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Maryott","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7874673_orig.jpg?crop=1182,1182,x0,y197&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1689706409614","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7874673"},{"teacherId":7897173,"projectId":10251960,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for helping restock our classroom! With additional soccer goals, we can create more activity stations, reduce waiting time, and give more students the opportunity to practice skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, teamwork, and communication.\r\nThe students were incredibly excited when they first saw the new goals. Many immediately asked when they could use them, and their enthusiasm carried into our first soccer lessons. Instead of standing in long lines waiting for a turn, students were able to work in smaller groups and stay actively involved throughout class. One especially rewarding moment was watching students encourage teammates who were learning to kick or aim at a goal for the first time. The extra goals helped create a more inclusive environment where every student had space to participate, practice, and build confidence.\r\nAs we continue our soccer unit, students will apply their skills through small-sided games that emphasize cooperation, sportsmanship, movement, and healthy decision-making.
