Technology is used regularly in our classroom for accessing Canvas, viewing notes, completing digital assignments, practicing skills, participating in simulations, and reviewing content before assessments. When a student arrives with a Chromebook that is not charged, it can quickly become difficult for that student to keep up with the lesson. Before receiving these supplies, I did not have extra Chromebook chargers available for students to borrow because our school had very few available to distribute to classrooms.\r\n\r\nThe new chargers allow students to plug in their Chromebooks and continue learning instead of sitting without access to the materials being used. Students no longer have to miss a digital simulation, wait to begin an assignment, or try to share a device with a classmate simply because their battery is low. Having chargers available in the classroom has also helped reduce interruptions because students do not need to leave class to search for one. They can remain in the room, follow the lesson, and complete their work alongside everyone else.\r\n\r\nThe USB flash drives have also provided another way for students to save and access important class materials. They are especially useful when students need to transfer or store files for assignments. These resources may seem simple, but they help students become more independent and prepared when working with technology. Students are learning that technology is not only used for entertainment; it is also an important tool for accessing information, organizing their work, practicing skills, and demonstrating what they have learned.\r\n\r\nThe organizational supplies have been just as valuable. At the beginning of the year, I had to provide approximately 20 students with dividers for their chemistry binders because they did not have their own. Chemistry builds from one topic to the next, so it is important for students to keep their notes, practice problems, laboratory activities, and reference sheets organized. The dividers and page protectors make it easier for students to locate earlier materials when we revisit a concept or connect it to something new. Instead of searching through a pile of papers, students can quickly find the resource they need and use it during class.\r\n\r\nStudents have been particularly excited about the highlighters because they can use them to color-code reference sheets and important information. Since our school cannot mass-print classroom materials in color, highlighters allow students to add color themselves. They can identify vocabulary, formulas, examples, patterns, and key steps using different colors. This makes the materials more engaging and can help students break down information that might otherwise feel overwhelming. Students enjoy having the ability to personalize their reference sheets while still following a clear organizational system.\r\n\r\nThese supplies have been especially beneficial for students who struggle with organization, frequently forget materials, or do not have extra school supplies available at home. Rather than feeling embarrassed or falling behind, they can quietly borrow what they need and participate with the rest of the class. I have seen students who previously had difficulty locating their notes begin using their binders and reference sheets more consistently. Students with uncharged Chromebooks can now solve the problem quickly and return their attention to the lesson.\r\n\r\nThank you for supporting this project and my students. Your generosity has helped create a classroom where students have more reliable access to technology, better tools for staying organized, and fewer obstacles standing between them and their learning. This first reward is designed to encourage students—especially reluctant readers—to take that first step toward becoming regular library users.\r\n 5 Library Checkouts + Book Review = Additional Reward: After reaching 5 library book checkouts, students can complete a Read, Review & Reward Form about one of the books they read. Students who complete the review will earn an additional reward by playing either Spin the Wheel or Plinko and will also earn 5 Minga points.\r\nStudent Reviews Become Reading Recommendations: Student book reviews submitted will be used to create a library bulletin board featuring student recommendations. Other students will be able to see what their peers are reading, read their reviews, and discover books they may want to check out themselves.\r\n\r\nThis creates a cycle of read → review → recommend → read. Students are not only being rewarded for checking out books; they are becoming reading ambassadors for their peers. Seeing authentic recommendations from fellow high school students can make book selection less intimidating and encourage students who might not normally visit the library to try a new book.\r\n\r\nImpact on Students\r\nThe project therefore provides both immediate motivation and longer-term literacy opportunities. The first reward encourages students to begin using the library, while the second reward encourages them to continue reading and reflect on what they read.
