Students can sit quietly and watch the fish, slow down, and give themselves a chance to regulate before returning to class. I also use caring for and cleaning the tank as a way to model one of my own healthy stress-relief strategies. Sometimes working around the tank takes the pressure off a conversation and makes it easier for a student to start talking about what's really bothering them.\r\n\r\nStudents were immediately interested in the tank. They ask questions about the fish, notice changes, and enjoy seeing what's happening in the aquarium. That curiosity has helped make my office feel less intimidating and more like a welcoming place where they can come for support.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, I'll continue using the aquarium as part of our calming space and as a tool for conversations about coping skills, mindfulness, responsibility, and finding healthy ways to manage stress.
