For my kindergarteners, the transition from talking about living things to actually sustaining life in our classroom has been a significant experience. We have officially launched our \"From Seed to Snack\" project, focusing on where our food comes from and the life cycles of plants. The centerpiece of our project is our brand-new cucumber garden and sunflower station. Because our classroom doesn't get much natural sunlight, the UV grow lights you provided have been a total game-changer. The students are fascinated by the glow and have learned that these lights act like indoor sunshine to give our plants the energy they need. Every morning, the very first thing they do is drop their backpacks and head over to the garden to see what changed overnight. It has turned our morning routine into a time of genuine discovery. When the materials first arrived, the students were incredibly excited to get started. As we unboxed the garden kits and set up the UV lights, there was a lot of curiosity about how everything would work. One student even asked if the lights were what would \"wake the seeds up.\" Having a dedicated indoor garden space has given them a sense of ownership over the project. They aren't just watching; they are actively watering, observing, and nurturing these living things every single day.The most popular part of the project so far is our Sunflower Challenge. After learning that some sunflowers can grow to be giants, the class set a collective goal: they want their sunflowers to grow taller than they are. Every few days, we stand next to the pots to compare heights. Right now, the sprouts are only an inch tall, but the students are determined to help them grow until the flowers are looking down at them. It has turned a lesson on measurement into a tangible, long-term goal. Our next steps involve diving deeper into the life cycle. As our cucumber garden begins to vine, the students will start their \"Garden Journals\" to document the transition from flower to fruit. We will be discussing how the cucumbers in our garden are the same as the ones they see in their lunch boxes. We are also practicing our measurement skills by using rulers to track exactly how many inches our sunflowers gain each week. This project is teaching them patience and a practical understanding of where food comes from. None of this would be possible without your support, and we look forward to sharing the moment a sunflower finally wins the height race.","fullyFundedDate":1775939344102,"projectUrl":"project/plants-in-action-hands-on-learning-with/9971112/","projectTitle":"Plants in Action: Hands-On Learning with Grow Lights","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Zermeno","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8158357_orig.png?crop=2316,2316,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1635371850443","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8158357"},{"teacherId":4369715,"projectId":9990125,"letterContent":"Thanks you so much! We are using the new classroom resources to grow and study plants up close, which has transformed abstract science concepts into something students can see, touch, and care for daily.\r\nOne specific classroom moment that stood out was when we gently removed a seedling from its container to examine its roots, stem, and leaves. Students were amazed to see how much the plant had grown and were excited to identify each part we had been learning about in books. They also compared different plants growing under different conditions, which naturally led into discussions about various gardening methods such as soil vs. hydroponic-style growing, watering needs, and sunlight exposure.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials especially the planting kits, seeds, and observation tools they were immediately curious and full of questions. Many of them asked if they would get to \"be plant scientists,\" and their excitement grew even more when they realized they would be responsible for caring for their own plants over time. There was a real sense of ownership and pride from the very beginning.\r\n\r\nNext, we are continuing our plant life cycle study by tracking growth over several weeks and recording observations in science journals. Students will begin comparing growth rates, making predictions about what their plants need to thrive, and learning how environmental factors affect living things. We will also be creating a simple classroom \"garden showcase\" where students present what they have learned about plant care and growth to each other.","fullyFundedDate":1768093214819,"projectUrl":"project/investigating-plant-growth-in-different/9992478/","projectTitle":"Investigating Plant Growth in Different Environments","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Zermeno","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8158357_orig.png?crop=2316,2316,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1635371850443","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8158357"},{"teacherId":8143371,"projectId":10034592,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for donating to our classroom. If there are no books at home, then students are definitely not listening to anyone read to them. My students love when I read to them, however, that isn't always a possibility. This project allowed me to purchase books and Tonie characters for the books that I use in a listening center. Because of your support, my classroom has been transformed into a more prepared, engaging, and inclusive environment as we prep for state testing. Beyond the physical items, the most profound change I have witnessed is the surge in my students' confidence. Knowing that a community of supporters believes in them has given them the tools to tackle difficult tasks they once shied away from.\r\nThe snacks have been a game-changer. Starting a high stakes test on an empty stomach is a major hurdle but now, my students approach their exams with the physical energy and mental focus they need to succeed. Right now we are in the middle of testing, so each morning there has been a snack with a motivational message on their desk. They are able to have that snack before starting their testing day. After everyone has concluded testing, students were able to pick one more smaller snack of their choice to have after their draining test. \r\nWith the new laminating sheets, I've created durable vocabulary matching games that they've been eager to play. These have turned \"boring\" prep into a competitive, interactive challenge. My students now feel like masters of their own vocabulary! With testing season can be incredibly stressful. The squishy stress balls have provided a much needed outlet for nervous energy. Having a tool to manage their anxiety has helped them feel empowered and in control rather than overwhelmed. The adjustable desk is also a favorite. Whether a student is the shortest or tallest in class, they can now stand confidently at a height that fits them while presenting/answering questions to classmates. This simple adjustment has removed the awkwardness of public speaking. \r\nMy students are beyond grateful for these gifts.
