I am a second year teacher (my first year was all digital) and I am now teaching 5th grade math at a low income school where supplies to teach math in fun and engaging ways are unavailable. I have great ideas for fun games, math centers and lessons that are interactive, but first I need some supplies. The laminator is absolutely necessary as the one we have at our school isn't working and many of my ideas include laminating and using game pieces and dry erase markers in our learning. I enjoy allowing students the freedom to work where they are most comfortable but need clipboards to offer that freedom as well as to use during centers or lessons where I have them move from group to group. Our school district also requires my students complete a total of 75 minutes of online lessons per week. I have requested headphones because the lessons include many videos that I have to make the students mute them because it is too loud and distracting to others. Since I am a first year, in person teacher I have already spent a lot of my own money to try and make sure the students have everything they need. I have a lot of students who think they cannot do math or are dumb and it is my goal this year to teach to every type of learner in my room and show them how much they can do and learn. Many of my students do not speak very much English or live in unusual circumstances and I want them to know how much I care and how they can rise above any of that because math is a universal language and have faith that they can learn it.
