Because of your generosity, my students now have access to a meaningful novel that has already sparked curiosity, conversations, and created a fun space to learn to enjoy reading. Your support has helped turn reading time into something my students look forward to each day.\r\n\r\nThe Secret Garden has introduced students to important literacy skills such as character development, identifying themes, and making text-to-self connections. We've been working on close reading, building vocabulary from context, and discussing how characters grow and change over time. In our classroom, reading often looks like students partnering up to read aloud, stopping to discuss new words, and eagerly sharing their ideas during group discussions. Many of my students, especially those who are still building confidence as readers, feel proud when they recognize how much they understand and can contribute.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have been able to identify with Mary and the fact that she had to leave the place where she was born because something bad happened. One student shared that the book makes them feel \"calm and hopeful,\" because Mary has strength to overcome the challenges in her life and bloom just like the garden. Seeing students who were once hesitant readers now asking for \"just one more chapter\" is truly powerful. Thank you again for making this experience possible and for helping our classroom grow as readers and thinkers.","fullyFundedDate":1773850701825,"projectUrl":"project/planting-seeds-of-reading-with-the-secre/10157468/","projectTitle":"Planting Seeds of Reading With The Secret Garden","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Beasley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9544815_orig.jpg?crop=792,792,x0,y42&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1773854305105","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9544815"},{"teacherId":9488759,"projectId":9876440,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our \"Classroom Crime Lab\" project! This year in gifted, I wanted to add a variety of musical instruments to our class to improve focus, concentration and memory. They were thrilled to learn they were goiong to add handbells to our rhythm sticks, harmonicas, and keyboards. Of course, like any eager kids, they desparately wanted to take out our new bells and start playing around. Guess what? I let them! It was so fun watching them trying to make music while exclaiming, \"Mine doesn't work!\" Little by little they discovered the numbers, letters, and notes matched a color code. At first, the kids listened to my color directions to play simple tunes then progressed to following colors on the whiteboard. Once I began to display the actual notes that corresponded to the letters and colors, the magic happened. They were able to connect the colors to the notes and the notes to a rhythm pattern.
