In our ACES program, students are actively using the positive incentive system through \"Bengal Bucks\" as part of their daily classroom routines. Students earn bucks for being on time to class, turning in their phones, completing assigned work, following directions, and demonstrating respect toward peers and staff. These resources have become an embedded part of our classroom culture rather than an occasional reward system.\r\n\r\nOne specific classroom moment that stands out is during transition times at the beginning and end of class. Students now immediately check in, submit their phones without prompting, and get started on their Do Now tasks because they know these behaviors are consistently reinforced with Bengal Bucks. In one cohort, students even began reminding each other, \"Don't forget your buck opportunity,\" which shows how deeply the system has been internalized. This has led to noticeably smoother transitions and increased instructional time across all cohorts.\r\n\r\nWhen students were first introduced to the Bengal Bucks system, their reactions were a mix of curiosity and excitement. Many students were initially skeptical, but once they began earning bucks consistently for small, achievable behaviors, engagement increased quickly. The visual and tangible nature of the bucks helped students immediately understand the connection between their choices and positive outcomes. Over time, even previously disengaged students began actively seeking opportunities to earn them. Looking ahead, students are continuing to build toward incentive days on Wednesdays and Fridays, where they can \"cash in\" their Bengal Bucks for rewards.","fullyFundedDate":1760751171991,"projectUrl":"project/motivating-students-through-positive-rei/9813995/","projectTitle":"Motivating Students Through Positive Reinforcement: Incentives for Behavior and Achievement","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bouvier","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6743135_orig.jpg?crop=360,360,x124,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1777912168769","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6743135"},{"teacherId":10410833,"projectId":10036987,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your donation of \"Headphones for HIgh Schoolers\". The space feels more intentional now. Instead of pulling up random chairs, students come over, sit down, and settle into the work more quickly. It has helped create a calmer, more focused environment for conversations that require patience and trust.\r\n\r\nThis is especially important for students who have gaps in their math learning, sometimes going back to foundational numeracy. Those conversations can feel vulnerable. Having a comfortable, consistent space helps lower the barrier. Students are more willing to ask questions, admit confusion, and stick with challenging ideas.\r\n\r\nI've also seen a shift in how students view themselves in that space. It doesn't feel like a place you go because you're struggling. It feels like a place to figure things out. That shift matters. It's helping students build confidence and start to see themselves as capable of doing math.","fullyFundedDate":1767225033842,"projectUrl":"project/creating-a-comfortable-space-for-student/9874972/","projectTitle":"Creating a Comfortable Space for Student Support and Collaboration","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Rudy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9887376_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y504&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1737145783671","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mr-rudy"},{"teacherId":9887376,"projectId":9967602,"letterContent":"The snacks from this project have made a real difference in my classroom. Students know that their basic needs are being considered, which builds trust and helps them feel more comfortable taking academic risks. Students are using the fidgets daily, and some students have made a habit of grabbing their notebook, a pencil, and a fidget at the beginning of class. This shows that students view these fidgets as an essential learning material.\r\n\r\nI had a fidget drawer that was sad- it only had 1 or two pop sockets left that were in bad shape. When my students opened the drawer to see new fidgets, they were so excited. They were really happy and \"blessed\" to find out that they had all been donated by strangers who just wanted them to succeed.\r\n\r\nI have students who use the fidgets while they work, especially the gripper and chewable pencil caps. These have helped students stay on task and have resulted in less destruction of materials (from chewing/ breaking items). Some students us the fidgets as motivators and self trackers through the visual timers. They use it to stay on track, take accurate breaks, and love to choose their favorite color.
