My students have multiple obstacles when it comes to graduating with a full diploma. Traditional classroom settings insist that students absorb and express knowledge in only a few ways (reading, writing etc.). The materials in this basket, will help them have opportunities to draw complex biological models, to present posters instead of only write essays. Giving students many different ways to expressing their understanding provides outlets for students with disabilities to feel truly successful. Similarly, many of my students struggle to communicate their knowledge on a state test. Unfortunately, that is the typical method for obtaining a diploma in the state of Massachusetts. However, students with disabilities can also submit a portfolio of grade level materials to the state to be deemed "competent" in science. The materials here will help us create and organize binders that will show their mastery of core Biology concepts and ultimately gain a high school diploma.
