Reading helps build confidence, improves focus, and provides students with the ability to transport themselves into another place while learning empathy and broadening their horizons.\r\n\r\nWorking in a low income district, often students are not exposed to reading at home. Whether parents are working and cannot bring students to the library, or costs prohibits the purchase of books, it is clear that students who are in low income districts are placed at a disadvantage. \r\n\r\nI am so grateful for the books that have been donated to our classroom. Reading is one of my passions, and I try to incorporate reading throughout our day. I read aloud to the class almost everyday, and students are currently reading independently to build their stamina several times throughout the week. \r\n\r\nSome of these new books will be used for small book groups, and some will be used for novel study. When the boxes started to arrive, I could see the excitement on many of their faces, as this cohort is comprised of great readers. I am excited to start using these books (as you can see from our pictures, one group has already started!). \r\n\r\nAgain, many thanks for your donation. Our sensory bin now has some extra items which the kids can grab and use to calm down or just sit and relax. The sensory maze mats are so much fun as well as the sensory pull strings.
