With these materials, we had a cardboard construction station. Students were inspired to create different things out of cardboard. Some students chose to work together, others separate. It was really fascinating to see the problem solving skills that my students were building as they constructed their sculptures. \r\n\r\nThe large scissors and cardboard tools made it so much easier for students to mold the cardboard to their imaginations. Prior to receiving these materials, students were having to take turns with the couple pairs of cardboard scissors, and hot glue guns that we had. My students were so excited to see the huge boxes of multiple colors that they were going to use for their art projects. As a class we have instituted \"Art Mondays\" in which we take Monday morning (a challenging morning for everyone if we're honest...) and work on a new art project with which to decorate our classroom. Since these projects tend to be in-depth and require more than just the 10 colors from a markers set, the new colored pencils and crayons have been a huge hit in adding depth and creativity to their work. \r\n\r\nAdditionally, we have now dedicated a wall to \"What Are We Coloring\" in which all students have a part of an resized image and they color their part to be later fitted into the whole image. Markers were a disaster for this and rarely showed the detail each kid would add, so the colored pencils have a been a true pleasure to use to see just how they add depth to each small section. \r\n\r\nThe supplies as a whole are so very much appreciated and allow each student to really enjoy coloring in each moment. There are no more huge sighs over the fact that they can't add detail or differentiate between skin tones in their work. Whenever we complete a unit, students proudly grab their personal binders to reference their past numbers and update their progress. We are using them to track daily attendance, which has proven to be an amazing motivator for them to consistently come to school ready to learn.
