My students are energetic 5 year old students who love listening to stories. Many of my students are second language learners who would benefit from hearing fluent reading of some of their favorite stories. We are a Title I school where approximately 95 percent of our students are on the free and reduced lunch program. I have launched the Daily 5 program in my classroom where one of the stations is Listening to Reading. A listening station would provide my students with the much needed opportunity to listen and learn from fluent readers. For my second language learners, this opportunity is extremely important in helping them develop new vocabulary and develop correct sentence structures.
