Every line they draw strengthens their grip, improves their control, and teaches their hands how to move with intention. These are the same fine motor skills they'll rely on when they start forming letters and words. \r\n\r\nOur older elementary students are using these materials in entirely different but equally important ways. Second and third graders are exploring storytelling through illustration, using markers to create vibrant narratives and Sharpies to add bold details that make their ideas pop off the page. Fourth and fifth graders will be learning more advanced techniques this year, like figure proportion and one point perspective. \r\n\r\nWhat strikes me most is how these simple materials create equity in our classroom.
