We started by going out in small groups to take photos around the school. There were smiles on the faces of students who had never smiled in class before. They were relaxed and reminisced about experiences from when they were in the lower grades. They had fun setting up action shots of each other shooting soccer balls into the nets and taking photos of friends and teachers. The cameras were sophisticated enough for everyone to use and they had the satisfaction of immediately printing out the images. Several students said this was \"so much fun.\"\r\n\r\nAnother goal of the project was using the photovoice strategy to see what was important for this group of students (as expressed through their choice of photos). I could see that personal relations were very important - friends, siblings, teachers and administrators. Students also took photos of their favorite places - the library, the field, the murals, lunch tables, the counseling room. And everyone took photos of people using our new field.\r\n\r\nOnce back in the classroom, it was exciting for students to select and print the photos. There was enough paper for them to each print 10 photos. Then they used the photos, glue, construction paper and markers to create their collage memory board. We were able to review concepts of composition and expression of mood to best express our ideas artistically. Every student was invested in creating their own board which we wll be displaying in the district board room and they will have a \"graduation project\" to take home at the end of the year.\r\n\r\nThank you for supporting us with the instant cameras and rolls of thermal paper. I will be able to use these for other classes in future years as well. Thank you for the new markers, paper, boards and glue which underscored for the students that their work and opinions deserved special supplies. Because of your generosity, our students now have access to a sensory sequin board, gel floor tiles, a weighted blanket, and noise-cancelling headphones. These items have already made a meaningful difference in our learning environment.\r\n\r\nMany young students need opportunities to move, touch, and explore in order to stay regulated and ready to learn. The sensory sequin board gives students a safe and engaging way to interact with changing textures and patterns. Students love running their hands across the sequins to create designs, and the repetitive motion can be very calming and grounding.\r\n\r\nThe gel floor tiles have quickly become a favorite in our school. When students step or press on them, the colorful gel moves and creates beautiful patterns. This simple activity provides both visual and tactile stimulation that helps students release energy, reduce stress, and reset when they are feeling overwhelmed.\r\n\r\nThe weighted blanket offers deep pressure that helps some students feel calmer and more secure during quiet work times or when they need a moment to regulate their bodies. The noise-cancelling headphones are also incredibly helpful, allowing students who are sensitive to sound to focus during independent work or reading time without becoming overwhelmed by classroom noise.\r\n\r\nThese sensory tools are especially helpful for students who experience sensory processing challenges, attention difficulties, or big emotions. Having access to these materials helps students regulate their bodies, improve focus, and return to learning with confidence.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, our school is now a place where students can meet their sensory needs while building important skills for self-regulation and learning. They were so excited to begin the unit and dig in to the materials. Having high-quality, colorful resources made them feel like \"real scientists\" from the moment the materials hit their desks.\r\n\r\nWe started by tracking the weather in our area and comparing it to the weather in other parts of the world, as well as exploring climate zones. Using the tools you provided, students worked in small groups to take daily meteorological readings—temperature, wind direction, and precipitation.\r\n\r\nThe students were able to use the books to research weather they were most interested in (hurricanes, blizzards, sandstorms, lightning, monsoons, and tornadoes). They used the experiment kits to help answer our unit question: What are ways people can lessen the impact of weather hazards? They used the materials to learn about landslides and design ways to prevent them from happening, how to prevent flooding in communities, and how to make sturdy homes prepared for extreme weather. They also designed wind lifts to learn about clean energy.\r\n\r\n Your generosity didn't just buy supplies; it sparked a genuine curiosity about the world around us.
