Our classroom family is absolutely ecstatic over their new sketchbooks, \"fancy\" notebooks, and special art supplies. The sketchbooks have been utilized as a welcome activity to start each morning and to hold all of our new sketching techniques from our art activities. The multi-subject notebooks have been organized to hold our mentor text inquiries, social emotional learning skills, and social studies content. They are so excited these notebooks also come with built-in pockets, what a perk! The rainbow scratch paper has unveiled so much creativity in our classroom and the scented bookmarks increase excitement over our new whole class novels!\r\n\r\nThese materials have helped our structured routines run smoothly and have truly brought so much joy into our classroom community. Receiving the new supplies was such a fantastic surprise to this group of learners and we are so appreciative of your help to make this happen. I asked them what they liked most about these new books and one boy said, \"I really like reading books about history. Some of these books are about stuff I have never even heard of. It is really important we learn from history.\" A girl in my class said, \"Some of these books share important lessons. They don't always treat us like little kids and I really like that.\" \r\n Our class has been utilizing these texts to facilitate important discussions and build empathy and understanding. As an educator, I know my lesson plans extend beyond academic target skills. I hope to support the development of critical thinkers and lifelong learners who advocate for themselves and others. These books are absolutely a step toward opening up windows to different perspectives and creating a more inclusive world. My students are extremely grateful for your donation and will continue to benefit from your gift for the remainder of the year and hopefully beyond. The games provided much engagement and a way to challenge my students. They are also versatile so I can used them for several different grades by just adjusting the content. With the negative impression that mathematics has left on some students, presenting the work in a fun and competitive way has been a game changer. \r\n\r\nMy next steps are to continue using my current games in even more inventive ways and making sure that they maintain their lure as a preferred activity as best I can. Students have been talking about books more, encouraging interest in different series to their friends, and asking more questions about specific authors and plotlines. This project has given our classroom more than just books, it has given us the gift of a love of reading! For many, this was the first time they've had a book that truly matches both their reading level and maturity level.\r\n\r\nThese Hi-Lo books were especially transformative. Middle school students who often feel limited to \"little kid books\" because of their reading challenges were thrilled to discover engaging, exciting, and age-appropriate stories that they could actually enjoy. \r\n\r\nTo extend the impact beyond our classroom, we also provided families with a booklet based on the \"Four Resources Model.\" This resource is designed to guide parents and caregivers in supporting their child's literacy journey. It includes meaningful questions and activities that encourage higher-order thinking and help students build comprehension, decoding, and critical thinking skills. These materials ensure that the skills we're developing in class can grow even during breaks.\r\n\r\nThanks to the new books, students are experiencing the joy of reading in ways that many had not before.
