Writing is a struggle for many people, but it is especially difficult for my English Language Learners (ELLs). My ELLs face many challenges when writing such as poor vocabulary, awkward phrasing and unconventional grammar, inappropriate use of colloquial language, and difficulty in sentence structure and word order. By studying exemplary writing in mentor texts, my students can learn what successful writing looks like and how to write well. I plan on using a diverse range of mentor texts to help my students understand various genres of writing such as informative,descriptive,persuasive, and narrative writing.
