Grabbing a snack is just a normal part of our room, and that quiet dignity matters. It also opens the door for conversations. Now they walk in and choose what works for them: a wobble stool, a floor cushion, a standing spot, or a quieter corner seat. That one small choice at the start of class has changed how they show up.\r\n\r\nThe biggest shift I've seen is in focus and stamina. Students who used to ask for frequent breaks are staying with their reading and writing tasks longer, and students who needed to move can do it without leaving the room or disrupting others. \r\n\r\nI've also seen a change in independence and confidence. Their binders are clearly labeled and numbered so they know exactly where to find it and replace it each time they access it. \r\nThis system has enabled the students to start class each day with all of their materials. We can place missed work in their binders, as well as search for missing work. This is helping the students maintain accountability for their own learning.
