As the America workplace continues to change and collaboration with team members becomes a vital necessity in being successful, our students need to learn this skill. Flexible seating allows for students to verbally engage, exchanging information and ideas with each other in a small group setting, with a partner or at times individually through web-based communication programs. The varies seating arraignments allow for the development of communication skills, the ability to work on projects, to exchange ideas, and analyze the information as a team, with a teacher monitoring and making suggestions.
Flexible seating allows for the ability to change seating quickly from the whole group to small group, to working with a partner or teacher one to one quickly and almost effortlessly. This seating is needed in the modern classroom and currently is missing. In a writing resource classroom such as mine, the need for students to exchange thoughts and analyze different forms of information is essential. In any classroom, there are different learning styles and abilities, but in a special education setting, it is even more so. Flexible seating assists the teacher in being able to present the lessons in the different learning styles and levels needed, monitor the development of the project successfully and maintain a learning, engaging classroom environment.
