Students are given time each week to explore their own passion project outside the regular content of the classroom. I have a student who is an expert Rubik's cube solver and is willing to use his expertise to teach his peers how to look for the patterns in mathematics and solve a Rubik cube quickly and correctly. Learning through play is beneficial even at the secondary level. Cribbage is also a great mathematical game that enhances quick facts in a fun learning environment. Students will learn this old time favorite game and be able to play with their friends and family both inside the classroom and at home. Teaching skills helps students learn them even more! Last but not least, I would love to purchase string to work with patterns and the mathematical 'how' behind the beauty of art. Students will use the string to graph various art masterpieces seeing straight lines turn into curves in front of their eyes.
