Many of my students have never been to a library or owned a book. For some holding a new book is only done in the classroom or in the school's library. Students face's light up when we have a class trip to the library. This one book may be the start of their very own library. Ownership means a lot to these kids. Owning their own book will engage and motivate students to read more. Owning a book helps motivate and encourage more reading. Reading more is beneficial and will increase their vocabulary and test scores. It will increase self-esteem.
