I want to share how your donation has evolved to meet the specific needs of my students this semester.\r\n\r\nWhile my original proposal focused on a student newsroom, I realized that for my group of newcomer English Learners, we needed to focus first on foundational expression. We pivoted our project to focus on Visual Storytelling and Literacy, using the Smart TV you funded to help students express what they learned in their own words.\r\n\r\nThe impact of having this technology in our room has been transformative in two specific ways:\r\n\r\n1. Accelerating Literacy Learning For my newcomers, the Smart TV became the focal point of our literacy instruction. Instead of struggling with small text in a book, we used the large screen to project text, analyze sentence structures, and build vocabulary together as a group. It allowed students to see the connection between spoken and written English clearly. The visuals we displayed helped bridge the gap between their native languages and English, making reading and writing much more accessible and engaging.\r\n\r\n2. Real-Life Learning and Digital Skills Even though we moved away from the journalism angle, the project still provided critical real-world context. Students used Canva to design digital posters about Science and Social Emotional Learning (SEL). When they projected their digital posters onto the TV to present to the class, they were practicing real-life skills: digital design, public speaking, and using professional technology.\r\n\r\nWhether creating posters on paper or digitally, your donation gave my students a platform to visualize their thoughts and share their hearts. Thank you for providing the tools that are helping my students read, write, and succeed in their new community.","fullyFundedDate":1757910823797,"projectUrl":"project/our-community-news-broadcast/9714663/","projectTitle":"Our Community News Broadcast","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Joo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10248878_orig.jpg?crop=1124,1124,x0,y37&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1757884550182","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10248878"},{"teacherId":7938683,"projectId":9309053,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, our classroom was able to bring \"Squeeze the Stress: Student Wellness Outreach Through Slime Kits\" to life! The excitement was immediate—the moment my students saw the boxes of slime-making supplies, their faces lit up with curiosity and joy. Many of them had never made slime before, and the opportunity to mix, stretch, and experiment with textures became more than just a fun science activity. It turned into a hands-on way to learn about mindfulness and stress relief.\r\nWe used the kits as part of our wellness lessons, exploring how sensory activities can help calm the mind and reduce anxiety. Students worked together in small groups to create their own slime \"stress relievers,\" choosing colors and scents that made them feel peaceful and happy. One of my favorite moments was seeing a student who often struggles with anxiety smile proudly and say, \"This actually helps me focus better.\"\r\nLooking ahead, my students are now planning to share what they have learned by creating a \"Calm Corner\" in our classroom, filled with the slime they made and other sensory tools. This project has not only given them a fun and creative outlet but also empowered them with lifelong strategies for managing stress and supporting one another's well-being. The day the boxes with our new heat press, 3D printer, and classroom supplies arrived was one of pure excitement and joy. The students' eyes grew wide with wonder as we unboxed each item, and the buzz in the room was palpable. They couldn't believe these state-of-the-art tools were for them. Thank you for making that unforgettable moment possible.\r\n\r\nWe have wasted no time putting your gifts to use! Our first major project was a school-spirit initiative. Students worked in teams to design a new logo for our class that represented our goals for the year. They learned the basics of digital design and then watched in awe as the 3D printer brought their ideas to life, one layer at a time, creating keychains and small statues of their logos. One student, who often struggles to engage in traditional lessons, spent hours perfecting his 3D model. Seeing the tangible result of his focus and effort—a physical object he could hold in his hand—gave him a tangible sense of pride I have rarely seen from him before.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part was using the heat press to transfer their final designs onto hats. The students cheered each other on as they carefully pressed their logos, creating professional-quality items they can use every day. These weren't just art projects; they were lessons in design thinking, collaboration, and seeing a complex process through from start to finish. And thanks to the storage bins you provided, all our vinyl, filament, and tools are kept perfectly organized, while the vacuum helps us maintain our new \"maker space\" with a sense of shared responsibility.\r\n\r\nOur recent award celebration was the perfect culmination of this project. We recognized students for academic achievements and milestones, and the incentive items you funded were the prizes. The top design teams were awarded with their very own custom 3D-printed trophies. This powerfully reinforced the idea that hard work and creativity are truly valued and celebrated in our classroom.\r\n\r\nYou have not just given us supplies; you have given us the tools to innovate, the motivation to excel, and the means to celebrate our success. The new materials are not only tools for instruction—they've become the heartbeat of our daily routines and a spark for deeper student engagement.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new hands-on resources, their faces absolutely lit up. There were gasps, claps, and wide-eyed curiosity. One student even said, \"It feels like we're in a real workshop now!\"—a comment that melted my heart. They immediately gravitated toward the SEL activities and organizational tools, excited to explore them.\r\nWe recently used the materials for a project called \"Feelings in Motion\", where students built emotion wheels and participated in role-play scenarios to better understand empathy and communication. The hands-on tools made these abstract concepts come to life. Students worked together to organize their materials, share responsibilities, and reflect on how they were feeling—building both practical and emotional skills in the process.\r\n\r\nOne especially powerful moment came when a typically shy student used a feelings card to express frustration in a calm and constructive way. It opened up a valuable conversation and gave the entire class a lesson in empathy. That moment wouldn't have happened without the new SEL tools you helped us get.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students are beginning a \"My Mindful Toolbox\" project where they create personalized kits filled with strategies and materials that help them stay organized and regulate their emotions. These kits will continue to grow throughout the year, and the resources you provided will be used again and again to support their journey.\r\n\r\nThanks to you, our school is not only more organized—it is a safe space where students are learning how to understand themselves and each other.
