It's easy to overlook the \"basics,\" but as their teacher, I can tell you these are the tools that keep learning moving without interruption — and your gift means my students will have what they need all year long.\r\nThe Expo Dry Erase Markers are the lifeblood of our whiteboard work. Every math problem we solve together, every word we sound out, every quick check-for-understanding happens with a marker in hand. Fresh, vibrant ones mean no more shaking a dying marker while a student waits to share their answer.\r\nThe Elmer's Glue Sticks will fuel countless projects this year — from gluing sight words into journals to building interactive notebooks and art projects. Glue disappears fast in a first-grade classroom, and having a full supply means creativity never has to pause.\r\nThe Ticonderoga Pencils are something my students go through constantly as they practice handwriting, complete math work, and build their independence. Having reliable, well-sharpened pencils on hand means less time hunting for something to write with and more time actually writing.\r\nAnd the Sharpie Permanent Markers help me label everything from student folders to classroom bins to project materials — keeping our room organized so my students can find what they need and take ownership of their space.\r\nNone of these items are glamorous, but they are the quiet backbone of a classroom that runs smoothly. Because of you, my classroom is now filled with tools that will shape how my first graders learn, read, and see themselves as capable, curious learners — and I wanted you to know exactly what that looks like in practice.\r\nLet's start with the Double-Sided Magnetic Write & Wipe Boards. These three sets of ten mean that for the first time, every single one of my students can have a personal whiteboard in their hands during lessons. Instead of a few students raising hands while the rest wait quietly, I can now ask a question and watch every child think, write, and show me their answer at the same time. It's a small shift that makes a huge difference — quiet learners find their voice, and I get a real-time window into who needs more support before a concept gets away from them.\r\nThen there's the Kindergarten Guided Reading Collection and the At-Home Learning Guided Reading Multilevel Pack. Thirty books, spanning a full range of reading levels, now live in our classroom library and in my small-group reading toolkit. Learning to read is one of the most important — and most personal — journeys a child takes in first grade. No two students get there the same way or at the same pace. These books let me meet each child exactly where they are, whether that's sounding out their first CVC words or building fluency and confidence with longer stories. And because some of these books can travel home, reading practice doesn't have to stop at the classroom door. Families get to be part of the journey too.\r\nThe Classroom Magnetic Letters Kit might be the item I'm most excited about. There is something almost magical about the way young children learn letters and sounds through touch and play. Watching a student physically build a word, letter by letter, and then read it back to me — that moment when it clicks — is one of my favorite parts of teaching. This kit turns our whiteboard easel into a hands-on literacy center that my students will use every single day.\r\nPlease know that these aren't just supplies sitting on a shelf. They are already becoming part of our daily rhythm — during morning meeting, small group instruction, literacy centers, and independent work time. Every time a student picks up a magnetic letter, writes on their personal whiteboard, or curls up with a new book, they are benefiting directly from your kindness.\r\nTeaching first grade means watching children take some of their very first steps toward independence, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning. Thanks to you, I have better tools to help them get there. These new books have helped students practice important reading skills such as identifying theme, analyzing characters, making inferences, determining the main idea, citing text evidence, and expanding their vocabulary. Having a variety of books that appeal to different interests has encouraged even some of my most reluctant readers to pick up a book and keep turning the pages.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is much more than simply finishing a book. Students participate in book discussions, respond to reading through writing, share recommendations with classmates, and make connections between what they read and their own lives. During independent reading time, the room is filled with focused, excited readers who are eager to discover what happens next in their stories. It's incredibly rewarding to see students asking for \"just one more chapter\" or excitedly recommending a favorite book to a friend.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who were hesitant readers at the beginning of the year have gained confidence because they finally found books that matched their interests and reading levels. The magnetic manipulatives allowed my students to physically build fractions, model geometry, and visualize place value right on the board. For fourth graders, abstract math concepts can be incredibly daunting, but having high-quality, physical tools turned intimidating test prep into an interactive, engaging experience. There were several students who previously struggled with math anxiety who completely opened up once they could physically manipulate the pieces to solve a problem.\r\n\r\nFurthermore, the color printer, laminator, and label maker allowed me to create a highly structured, organized learning environment. I was able to print and laminate vibrant, color-coded math toolkits, custom flashcards, and step-by-step strategy guides for every single student. Because these materials were laminated, they survived months of daily, heavy use leading up to testing. The label maker helped us keep all these moving parts organized, meaning no instructional time was wasted looking for supplies. As a result, part of the funding was used to create a more organized Chromebook charging and storage station in our classroom. The organizers, cable clips, and accessories helped create a system that students could use independently to retrieve, store, and charge their devices. It may seem like a small change, but it gave students more ownership and responsibility while making technology easier to access throughout the day.\r\n\r\nAlthough a full set of tablets was no longer available, we were able to purchase one tablet that became an interactive learning center for sight word practice, instructional videos, and other digital activities. We also expanded the technology resources available through students' Clever accounts so they could continue accessing engaging content during centers and independent work time.\r\n\r\nWith the remaining funds, we purchased a green screen and ring light, which quickly became one of my students' favorite additions to our classroom. We partnered with an older grade level and used the equipment to bring our writing to life. Students worked through the writing process, published their pieces, and recorded themselves reading their work on camera. Seeing themselves as published authors was incredibly exciting and gave them a sense of pride in their learning. Since then, we've also used the equipment for special projects and classroom celebrations.\r\n\r\nI sincerely apologize for the delay in sending this note of appreciation. The ordering delays and changes to the project made implementation take longer than expected, but the end result was a classroom full of new opportunities for learning, creativity, and independence.\r\n\r\nThank you for your generosity, flexibility, and patience. While this project didn't unfold exactly as originally planned, it ultimately gave my students exactly what they needed. When students have what they need right in front of them, they are far more willing to take risks, participate, and push through challenging work.\r\n\r\nWhat has been most exciting for my students is having materials that make learning feel fresh and accessible. Whether they are using colorful tools to represent math thinking, organizing their work more clearly, or having supplies readily available instead of waiting or sharing, it has created a smoother and more confident learning environment. I've noticed students who are usually hesitant are now more willing to participate because they feel prepared and included.\r\n\r\nThere are a few students in particular who have really warmed to these new resources. One student who typically struggles with focus now takes pride in organizing their work neatly and staying on task longer than before.
