Having access to high-quality texts in both languages allowed our students to deepen their understanding and build vocabulary while honoring and developing their bilingual identities. It was incredible to see learning in action as we watched students navigate information, compare texts, and gather facts and shared information in order to write their own animal books.\r\n\r\nThe stencils added an exciting creative element to the project. Students used them to design detailed book covers and to enhance their animal habitat dioramas. Furthermore, students are excited about their very own spots which has translated into smoother transitions, improved listening, and increased engagement during read-alouds and small-group lessons. \r\n\r\nIn first grade, structure and physical space play a crucial role in helping students build stamina and self-regulation.
