Clipboards are so important on a daily basis to support my students' learning. My students come to the carpet, or meeting area, at the start of each lesson. Clipboards make it so much easier for them to write while at the meeting area as well as move from one area of the room to another. The supply caddies and baskets in the Help-Yourself Storage Tub Center and Store-It-All Rotating Caddies are important to keep supplies organized and easily accessible to students to use when needed. During writing they use different paper and tools to publish their work, and these supplies will help with keeping the materials organized. These basic school supplies are a necessity for not just writer's workshop, but for so many other things that happen in the classroom. As well as Writing, the clipboards are essential to our math program. Our math program does not come with workbooks, so we use handouts. It is very hard to write on worksheets at the meeting area with out leaning on something. Clipboards are easier than notebooks or other books. Electric Pencil sharpeners are also a very important supply for classroom use. Pencils are used as the main writing tool throughout the day and for all subjects. I try to have a basket of already sharpened pencils to start the day so all my students have to do is exchange a broken pencil for a sharpened pencil. This makes the day go smooth and without too many interruptions. Hand help sharpeners tend to be a distraction for most students as well as a mess to clean when they fall on the floor.
