This is in addition to the content itself. To facilitate the reading aspects, it is advantageous to have a class library of important and interesting novels. These are historical novels that students can sink their teeth into, enjoy, learn some history, and make historical connections across curricula and content. Additionally, by reading these pieces of literature, the exposure to good writing and new vocabulary will expose students and help students write better. These are not only valuable skills for an AP class but skills they will use for life. It helps strengthen writing, reading and critical thinking. The novels selected are books students have read before that I consistently get positive feedback about. This helped them make better connections to the railroad barons back in the day. \r\n\r\nWe had 2 very used monopoly games that together made a complete board game that we used at times but could not use with an entire class.
